@1776Taco is running 285s on stock suspension and no CMC. He wheels his truck.

Or wait.. I think I tagged the wrong member…

Yep, that is correct. 285/70/17 SL Toyo at3s on 4Runner SEMA wheels. Bilsteins up on the top setting, a good alignment and still have the factory mud guards. I made a slight adjustment to the mud guards and moved them back a 1/2 inch. No trimming and no rubbing and yes I flexed it on a curb at the mall. In all seriousness it really went together great!. It drives and rides great, KDMAX pro 9 tune and an inline calibration really dialed it in and getting 18 mpgs around town,

285s will rub on something if you flex out the front at all steering angles. Those that say they don’t have rubbing with 285s likely haven’t wheeled their trucks very hard yet.

I ran 285's on a +1 wheel no cmc with rokblokz flaps and under full lock and flexing I would tap the mudflap mount. Get a good alignment shop to push a bit of extra caster and go for it.
Everyone toting you instantly need a cmc for a 285 hasn't ran one or has a high negetive offset

There are too many variables like suspension setups, wheels, offsets, rim width, alignments and some 285s are not all the same as some run bigger than others. I haven't rubbed yet and the off road shop that I have used for 25 years said it will be clear from rubbing. I can see some rubbing if I were to do some serious hard off road driving rock crawling, but I don't intend on doing any of that plus there is nowhere really for that out here on the east coast.

Yeah that’s why I’d like to get an “installed” actual diameter of the bfg at’s 285/70/17’s because my bfg at 265’s are exactly 31” so I’m guessing the 285’s are exactly 1 to 1.1” bigger when mounted and installed.
I appreciate the info man. Thanks.

what part of the east coast are you at. I’m in Hampton roads…. I use Portsmouth alignment. Daniel has been doing my alignments for about 20 years….. best alignment dude I know. Old school shop.

seems you’re right. I’ve seen enough 285’s w/o cmc….. I believe I have th room. Just going to find someone to give me the actual
Installed height of a 285/70/17 bfg at. As my 265/70 sits at 31” Exactly. Curious of “real” width measurement as well

The only thing I liked about the new Tundra was fitting 35’s was super easy…even 37’s wasn’t much of a challenge.

Unfortunately I can't go measure it for as I have moved up a tire size recently but if you planning to stick with the bfg you will be especially ok as I did a bunch of playing with tires at the shop before I put my 265/70's on and I could of fit a 275 k02 in place of my 265 duratrac. Bfg's are apparently just smaller than other tires.
I'll try to dig up my alignment specs later but I had it with spc uca's and dirt king uca's and had no issues either way.

You can see where it would tap the mud flap (I was in there moulding the fender liner with the dreams of shoving a 295 in without a cmc) But no rubbing on the cmc.

    Can see the fitment there

But what is your wheel offset, tire installed and uca/alignment?

All major factors to why it would rub

If I were going to cut and weld that area I’d go for this option.

I swear no Tacomas are the same. I have a similar set up less the UCAs and I am no where close to the cab mount. I still have the plates I bought to weld in and see no need to do this.
