I want to push for 37's with LT and I think it's doable but yeah the firewall might need retubbing. But 35's on this truck makes it pretty damn capable. I feel like I would need an exo to push anymore the IFS can't get me through.

 

And 35’s are beyond what I would consider the limit on first gen IFS on hard stuff too. You can only ask so much of a 7.5” R&P and the CV’s. My tolerance for breaking is lower than most though, I absolutely hate trail repairs. There’s a reason I’m on 37’s with a 3RZ, built mini front axle and an FZJ80 rear. Over axled and underpowered.

That’s where SA really shines, you aren’t pidgenholed into IFS lines or having the body pitch with the front end into every hole and dragging the whole side of the truck into something

 

The funny thing is I've destroyed a front & rear diff ( destroyed the front carrier and stripped the rear ring gear) but I have yet to snap a CV axle. This is on 34's.
I scored an unlocked fzj rear axle. And I have a HP 8in. The 8in is fine for the 22re power, but might find a 9.5 diff to match the rear. Slowly but surely getting there.

Photo dump of a tacobox gear set failure. I got one of the first ones available when they started offering them after a hiatus back in 2019. Definitely made for an interesting drive from Sand Hollow back to Socal with broken gear teeth causing the internals to jump and vibrate around, but made it home. Also found that the flange that had been leaking/weeping the entire time it was installed didn't even have the bolts tightened from marlin....they were barely passed finger tight. Hopefully now that its rebuilt and I actually torqued all of the bolts and everything is sealed as well as I could get it, it won't leak and weep annoyingly anymore. I ended up getting their "competition" gear set so hopefully it holds up longer than the original gear set did. Didn't like how their gear set didn't come with everything and had to reuse some of the main components, luckily for me the parts I had to reuse didn't have any visible signs of damage.

 

Meh I've run 35's snice 2017 and only snapped one CV bound up and my stub shaft hopping up a climb. But I am careful with the throttle and am always conscious of what directions my tires are turned/how extreme. I know I can't just fucking rip the throttle and smash lock to lock like my solid axle buddies so everything is slower and more thought out but usually I still get up whatever I try.

But I do agree the body pitch is one of the best advantages to SFA.

 

Just solid axle it, buy once cry once.

 

I like literally don't want to though. I don't have the time right now to do it or the time to use it. I will likely get another set of 35's when these wear out because I have another big purchase coming up and for 37's I at minimum want LT and a stronger rear. Plus I still want to run pritchett on IFS, and plan on running the Rubicon and Fordyce on the same as well. It's out of spite at this point.

Not to sound like a total dick, but if you aren't breaking your first gen IFS on 35's, you probably aren't wheeling stuff hard enough to really need 35's and would be just as well suited on 33's.

For the record, I wheel with an extremely light right foot in 12:1 most of the time on 37's. My front axle carnage still has been an inner axle shaft, a Detroit locker (X2), and a R&P. All in 12:1 first gear lol

 

I didn't realize I need to break stuff to prove how hard I wheel. My days are typically spent hanging with the SFA guys on our trips and trying the same lines they do. TBH I feel like not having the crawl box and multiplying my torque on the driveline is what's kept me from breaking stuff. When I feel like I am pushing to the point of almost stalling I back down and re-adjust the line because I can feel the binding.

Granted I don't wheel much "just to wheel" these parks as much anymore. After being on almost every trail at those parks I get more enjoyment trying new parks.

 

I'm not getting into a pissing match because that is just my opinion. Wheeling is a big spectrum.

Around here, and what I consider to be the gold standard in tcases for my application, would be an Atlas. But to other wheelers, they don't hold up and SCS, Behemoth, or MMW cases are the standard. Just depends where you fall on the spectrum.

Anyone in this thread who constantly modifies and breaks and modifies their rig over and over to be stronger and more capable. And let's face it, if you are in this thread it applies to you.

 

You have to be in this hobby! It objectively requires you to be on the spectrum to enjoy!

I get one of two responses when saying anything about the truck to normal people (which I desperately try to avoid unless I know they also have a shitbox)- “oh, you’re building a bug out vehicle! Must be getting ready for the apocalypse!” or “oh, you’re building a mudder!”
