Wow! Amazed they let it go that long before FTS (or was it allowed to break up due to aerodynamic forces?)

It made it through MaxQ! The commentators didn’t know if it was an RUD or FTS action. Stay tuned!!!!

EDIT- did it make it to MaxQ? I could’ve sworn I heard the call?

I'm curious about all the debris that got kicked up on launch, as it was lifting off the pad there were starship-diameter-sized pieces that flew 2/3 of the way up the booster. Also, hoping they figure out raptor reliability, losing 5 on the first stage isn't great.

Yeah, I bet they figure that out quick though. The key thing about today is that Super Heavy was a success. Now to figure out how to get to the next stage... (pun intended)

Yeah, it didn't blow up on the pad, and as far as I know stage 0 is still standing, so definitely a success. Lots of lessons learned, which was the point of the exercise.

NSF is reporting a staggered FTS activation. Booster then ship.

It’s kind of an ugly plume when you see it on replay. Raptor flame outs and other melty things..
I think I counted 5 out when the feed showed the engines close up just before the RUD.

Looked like 6 to me(1 center, 5 outer). Not sure but I assume meco has to wait on separation which didn’t happen in spite of gimballing. Loss of a center Raptor may have hurt the flip attempt. A total of 18% thrust loss might be enough to prevent full orbit but I’d think they’d continue the test if separation were successful. I’m sure they got a lot of data to improve modeling though. Pretty damn good test.

They may be counting on the unfinished deluge system to help with that. And when that gets done using Fondag over a larger area. We’ll have to see if the area under the OLM that was already replaced held up.

Anyone else impressed by how long the rocket kept course correcting until it got suicided? No way we could have done that 50 years ago.

    Stupid 5 failed raptors...

Oh yeah! Lots adjustments going on there for sure!!

The interstage view was amazing and man, if the Ship lit..

What about the time it took to get off the pad? I thought it was going to RUD right there

DEFINITELY! Whether it was the 5 fixed Raptors(only 15 out of 20 are lit) or the 1 of the center 3 which gimbals(and which one) that was the cause or something to do with the separation flip failed I couldn’t say. The call out I was listening to was expecting the flip and separation but reported only the gyration prior to the rud. They’ll know which engines failed to light and which were shut down but I don’t know if they can ascertain if blow back debris was a cause.

Lack of thrust had to have consequences. I’m sure they’ll be poring over both the data and the OLM.
