I’m not a fan of the way the klr650 looks. I like that the xr650l looks like a dirt bike, less like a sport bike if that makes sense. I’m not a fan of all the fairings lol but that’s just me.

I read somewhere that if you put your kickstand down on the sensor it helps. That's usually near the engine too. I haven't had to do that so YMMV

I grew up on Hondas, they have never let me down. I’ve looked for used ones near me and the pickings are slim, probably because the people that own them don’t want to let them go lmao

Totally understandable. I just prefer fairings for the function.

I get that 100% I’m just not a fan, I’ve always liked the street fighter look on sport bikes lol I believe fairings have a place and are absolutely a very functional piece for bikes. If I had a higher performance street bike I’d keep the fairings for sure

only two pics i have, but she really does look like a dirt bike, the rear xr600 tail light and plastic and some small little led blinkers help the look as well

even these DOT knobbies are surprisingly smooth on pavement doing 60+ without head shake

48 miles. Only about 15 minutes on freeway then it’s all 2 lane black top back roads

I had a boss who raced KTM in enduro races (like the Mint400) he swore by those bikes. Now he races a RZR lmao

I’ve always wanted a KTM but couldn’t bring myself to stray from the red, been on em since I was 5 lol

i miss my ktm very much so... if it wasnt for a car taking me out and the bike getting totaled out by insurance I would still have it today

but such was life, and i coudlnt bring myself to buy another brand new ktm, i always wanted an xr650l since i was a young kid, the sound they make the look they have, i dont know what it is but this bike was always cool in my eyes, finding a clean used one for a nice price and locally nonetheless, I had to pick it up and get it out of my system

100% I’ve been keeping an eye out locally for a used one. Sorry to hear about the KTM.

I've read that, too. I haven't tested it yet, but in order to drop the kickstand I would either need to be in neutral or kill the engine. I'm not really a fan of either option on a roadway.

I got a redlight ticket dismissed by having my city traffic department write a letter stating that the loop at the light I ran wasn't calibrated properly.

I also sometimes get off my bike and push the crosswalk button to get the light to change.

Id probably find a more street oriented bike for the commute then get a more proper lighter dirtbike that is street legal to do off roading as you give up SO much off road to get something with okish street manners.

A bit apples to oranges but my plated 2014 WR450 is not really even fun to do my commute to work (22mi round trip - all back roads no more than 55mph) from simply an ergo / carrying of things / ease of use perspective especially with knobby tires (they are actually DOT tires too). The grom is a better ride to and from work, the tenere a dream.

Its just really hard to have a one size fits all, that stated an XR650L would probably be one of the best candidates for you to accomplish what you are looking for.

The other difference is I work 48 our shifts and I’m off 4 days a week so I would only be making that commute twice a week if that makes sense.
