I didn’t consider the heavy use so we are in a different situation. I understand you.

Toyota care should cover two oil changes and two tire rotations, when is up to you. Lots of folks get it done early and just use up their "2 years" early.

I second the oil analysis comment. With that mileage once a year should be fine and an analysis can confirm that.

Or just go for an hour drive once a month

4 tire rotations, 2 oil changes, 2 lube applications to propeller shaft of 4x4 models, 1 cabin air filter, and a handful of visual inspections.

Yea, YMMV, but the dealership freebies weren't worth the hassle for me.
15 minutes of my time and a few bucks trumps a trip to the dealer for some free oil, and possibly a filter change if the tech feels like it that day..

    alright here we go again

    two key points
You spoke to a guy with soft clean hands wearing a clean collared shirt about wrenches and metal who doesn’t know the difference between electric steering and hydraulic steering

and looked at having dealer do an oil change
$10/hr Kyle in express who doesn’t know what a fuse is, is gonna strip every one of your pan bolts

that is where express work like quicklubes always go. If you paid me to go there, $100 cash, I would not.

one time I lived in a house. I was home alone. Naked in a towel. Drying off from a shower. Waiting to go to class and get ready.
So I threw a moving blanket on the garage floor, got down, and drained the oil. Walked away for a bit did some other shit. Came back and finished the oil change. No driving. No traffic. No sitting. No wait times. No lobby.
It even killed two birds with one stone. Was dry from the shower by the time I was done.
Turn the drain pan away from you so it doesn’t splash, and put on the disposable gloves you have if you feel like it.
    Try that

    underwear?

I thought for overlanding you’re supposed to wear diapers

I’ve got a similar conundrum. I plan to run Mobil 1 in my truck from first oil change forward. My PLAN is to take my oil with me to first service. Tell them to charge me for an oil change and give me 6 quarts of their oil to take home. I’ll use it when changing oil in my wife’s 4Runner. I’m not sore I trust what oil they’re really using in these “free” ($600 Toyotacare) oil changes but I’m sure it comes out of a large drum or container somewhere in the shop. I doubt seriously they’re opening 6 quarts of “Toyota” branded oil each time. Also going to get them to check my transmission fluid level while it’s there. Told them it was shifting erratically. Was advised by a service writer/manager to tell them that and that way Toyota would cover the cost to check it (yes, it’s ludicrous it takes that much time and effort to check a fluid level). Rant over

I mean if you really want to check the level, you have to leave it overnight to cool off to level checking temps. Nothing to do with the dealer It just a pure science.

If you don't drive 10k just change once/year. Doesn't take much heat for any moisture suspended in the oil to come out. But otherwise oil is pretty hydrophobic. I do the same with my jet skis and those are run way harder than my truck (sitting at 7300RPMs at WOT for long stretches).

I’m referring to checking the transmission fluid level. I read they have to get it up to a certain temp (not cold) to check that and it was difficult to do.

Another oil thread. I change mine ~5k to 7k, yea the I know the manual say 10k.

It is my money and frankly well worth it for my mental ease of potential longevity. I sometimes wake up at 1am and drive ~2mi to the station at very cold NH temps with zero "warm-up" and go hard depending on the call. Easy money for fresh lube when needed :D

The last time I went to the dealership for a repair that was supposed to be under warranty, it was kind of a miserable experience.

As I was getting out of my car, the service advisor yelled across the parking garage to tell me that my Trd wheels were knock off fake wheels. The whole time the guy was checking in, he was a jerk, acting like he was allowing me to use my warranty.

A couple of hours later, I got a phone call, the guy tells me my car has been in an accident. I asked him what happened and if everyone was OK, he says “ your cars been hit bad bro, it’s all f-d up”. I asked him again what happened and he proceeds to tell me that all of the panels on the car are different shades of paint, and him, and his mechanic found stickers on the door panels from auto anything.com with part numbers. He told me this was the evidence he needed to prove my car had been in an accident.

The car had never been in an accident, the auto anything stickers were put on before I took possession of it at the dealership as a brand, new vehicle, from that exact dealership.

Sorry, if anyone here is a service advisor, I don’t have much faith in them. I have a few other experiences that are very similar to the one like this and I just don’t bother. When they tell me, I’m gonna get to year 24 months worth of maintenance at a Toyota, I think what a waste it is, because if there’s no way I’m taking my vehicle to them for anything that’s not a warranty issue that I have to fix through them because the cost is too much to do on my own.

When I bought the truck, I decided it was mine not the dealers and I get to decide what is it what happens with it and when. The dealer is the last resort..

But if you bring it to the dealer, your tranny temp is close to 180-190°F(maybe less if the drive is short). It takes hours to naturally cool it to 95-113°F to do a procedure per service manual.

welcome to toyota taking you to "places." If you can't do it yourself you should learn to do so - or find a local certified shop to do all your work (not Toyota or Goofy Lube or Slippery Monkey). GL.

My final toyotacare service, they replaced the oil at 10k miles and rotated the tires. I'll be doing my own oil changes, as these guys are crazy with the prices they charge for one. I recently received an email with a $5 off oil change coupon....button their shirt, their heart is falling out.

If it were me i would just tell the service guy that i would be happy to pay someone else to do it.
I wouldn't waste any more time with someone who wants to argue with me on an included free service, fuck him.
