Does anyone in the Prescott-Prescott Valley, AZ area have a needle bearing removal tool that I could borrow or rent? I’m a student at Yavapai College Automotive program and the bearing pullers we have in the shop did not work out for me. Wasn’t aware of the hassle it is to remove the needle bearing and now find myself here asking for help with a removal tool. Got everything removed except the bearing and now my truck is inoperable on a lift at school until I can finish this task. Any help or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

If you need the truck for the weekend, the only other alternative is to use a saw, either a hacksaw blade or a pneumatic saw and cut a slice into the needle bearing to collapse it, then pull it out.

Far from ideal, but it's "getrdone" mode. Obviously fillings are a big concern but I've seen this method in a pinch.

Have you tried a blind hole bearing puller?

I did try using one but the handle was too short and wasn’t allowing me to have good enough leverage to remove it out. Instead it started to drive the races out and eventually the race cage got mangled. Only the face/outside ring remains

I ended up making a DIY version of the ECGS tool, with a hardened thick washer with 2 sides cut flat as the puller, a longish hardened bolt, and an old saw arbor I had laying around (but you could use a piece of whatever metal) to go against the housing. Wasn't pretty, but it did the job.

I was hoping to get it with a blind hole puller from HF, but that wasn't doing diddly, so I needed something quick...
