The ones we found online were outdated, although that mainly mattered for knowing what was private property and what was sold for logging in the area. I believe apps like OnX and GaiaGPS can be helpful though. A lot of people like OnX for the color coding and "simplicity" but I actually found the colors to be more confusing than anything.

I have Gaia but have used it a very few times as we run mostly snowmobile trails in the off season so there are maps o plenty for that.
I'm an old fashioned big ol map kinda guy, you know the ones kids Don't know how to use!

The nice thing with Gaia is the different maps you can access with it. But National Geographic makes some gigantic, tear resistant maps. You can probably stop by one of the REI locations in Metro Detroit (assuming you're coming from that way) and pick up one. There are a couple of different versions for the Manistee National Forest. Alternately, the USFS definitely has some paper ones for the entire national forest around the area.

Actually crossing at Sarnia/Pt Huron that's about 50 min from my house.
I'll look up the USFS when I get out your way.

You could always order those maps online too. I think they're like $25 each, but well worth it. We have a few for places like Yosemite and Arches NP.

There is an REI near Troy. It's a little out of the way from Port Huron, but it'll give you the iconic chance to see Exit 69 for Big Beaver Rd.

Cool. Last year I dug up some PDF maps of Manistee and found some minivan-grade dirt roads that also showed on Gaia. (Literally saw a Dodge Caravan camped in a clearing near the end.) Hope to see more interesting/challenging terrain.

I got on some forest roads that you wouldn't want to take a minivan down last fall. Hell, some I didn't even want to take my stock Tacoma down, but I had no choice at that point. They're out there for sure.

Isn't Michigan great. We go from shorts to snow and back to shorts on Wednesday / Thursday.

Typical Michigan spring, shorts and lawnmowers, long pants and snow shovels. At least it’s not sticking yet.:annoyed:

Why did you guys send the snow over here??
Anyways, ordered my ORV permits and a Non-Resident Passport today.
When they arrive I will probably make a quick run over to check out a couple places before "The Invasion" in July...lol.
Any suggestions close to the Pt. Huron/Lexington area? I might hit Holly Oaks but prefer the trails....
You will see one guy pipe up here and say "Gars in Marine City"...we know who you are!!!
Maybe we should do a Toyota Takeover of Gars???? I like it.

So I was driving back from the dog park, Had my 1up bike rack on in the up position. I get pulled over because my bike rack is covering my plate.... He did just give me a warning, but evidently its a $325 ticket. Really? Has anyone ever had this issue?

Must have been a slow day. Pretty shitty reason to pull you over.

Any excuse to run your ID, I guess.

I got pulled over years ago for having my tail gate down.
