All true and MPGs sell more trucks than usefulness these days. Soon enough our government will mandate any vehicle sold in US will be electric only. More mandates and less liberties are 100% the way we are going. And US energy grid is easier to corner than foreign fossil fuels.

Time to revive this thread a bit l. Latest rumors I have heard is no more v6, and hybrid reserved for higher trims. Only rumors but they are from people I have learned to trust over the years.

Somehow the "pundits" think this is the final bodywork, and not the Tundra body shoehorned on there like previous mules?

    upload_2022-12-14_8-35-23.jpg

They also think the orange extension cord sticking out of the rear passenger window indicates hybrid:

Correct. Test mules + other information = speculation

That still looks like an ACSB to me, so I am thinking more 4Runner stuff than Taco stuff. With the likelihood that they are sharing more now under the skin than before, it could be a mule for both.

I do agree that the bodywork looks different, but the camo covering can play with the eyes. The grille area seems to 'look' better than the Tundra?

I just hope that they take some clues from the new Frontier and Colorado to keep the styling more tame and not like the fugly Tundra.

I don't know how tall that driver is, but it appears he's got much more windshield space to view. Maybe the seat is able to go lower.

^Yep it's been discussed a few pages back. This is a Tacoma test mule with Tundra double cab body and shortened Tundra bed. It's probably more spacious inside than the eventual production vehicle.

Copied from a similar thread, but different audience:
Here are my predictions on engines/transmissions.

Toyota is going to go with their new "Dynamic Force" engines on all TNGA platforms, which includes the new Tacoma (TNGA-F). There are only two of the new engines that have the power necessary for a midsize truck. (Toyota isn't going to put a V-6 in the Tacoma unless they get into the "Dinosaur wars" with Ford and Ram.)

All 4x2s and lower trim level model 4x4s (USA only for 4x2): A25A-FKS engine ~200 hp/180 ft-lb, 6-speed auto only
    TRD models 4x4: T24A-FTS engine (turbo) ~265 hp/330 ft-lb, 6 or 8-speed auto
TRD Premiums, Pro, and LTD: T24A-FTS engine with added "Hybrid Max" to get gross ~360 hp/400 ft-lb, 6-speed auto

Maybe?: USA/Canada might see the A25A-FXS engine at ~180 hp/170 ft-lb offered as a hybrid. It's the same as the A25A-FKS, except it's "Atkinson all the time" which is why the peak power and torque are lower, but the hybrid might bring it up to ~240 hp total. I suspect the decision on whether to offer the "lower-end" as a hybrid is going to come down to whether either country offers incentives at the price point that Toyota can sell it for.

Low probability, but fingers crossed: The 4x4 Off-Road might be available with a manual paired to the non-hybrid 2.4L turbo...for us fossils. Toyota does own >50% of the company (Aisin) that makes the manuals for the Wrangler/Gladiator...so there's that.

What we need is for someone who works at the Huntsville, Alabama, plant (where these new engines are made, as well as the current Tacoma engines) to tell us when they stop building the current 2.7 (2TR-FE) and 3.5 L (2GR-FKS) versions....and start building the T24A. (They already build the ubiquitous A25A, and the V35A-FTS found in the Tundra)
