Is this a head gasket leak?

    No codes showing
Engine seems to be running fine
    Oil looks fine
    Coolant looks fine but low
Dont see any noticable white smoke

The manifold does have a leak and im assuming the pink crud is coolant

I also hear a gurggeling sound once and a while

Looks like an oil leak as well

    Any suggestions woule be nice.

    Truck is a 2009 4.0

    Yes oil and coolant leak...
Coolant looks to be coming from the Water Pump or Thermostat housing.
Oil looks to be coming from the valve cover gasket. Clean it real well with degreaser and then monitor to find the source.

Can't tell if it is a head gasket leak or not. There are several tests you can get done to prove a head gasket leak or not: Leak down test, coolant test for exhaust gases etc.

If it helps, the head gaskets on the 4.0 don’t usually leak externally.
It’s hard to tell exactly where the leak is coming from in the picture.

The pic is the passenger side looking at the bottom of the manifold.

Same thing for my 2008. The work is in progress right now. 25 hours job…. Not nice to discover but at least the truck did not overheat

How did you diagnose yours? My truck doesnt have any other signs of a bad gasket except pink crud under the exhaust manifold and low coolant level. Its on the passenger side so i cant think of anything else it could be, since the water pump and thermostate are on the other side, but im no expert.

I really dont want to tear into this thing. I just replaced the steering rack and that was a miserable job.

Good thing though my truck hasnt overheated either so hopefully the head isnt buggered.

For the great name toyota has, ive had nothing but problems with the ones ive owned.

Not to be confrontational... but do you have problems with other vehicles you've owned? I see a lot of people that have problems with vehicles, and a lot that don't. Usually the ones with problems are either unconsciously abusive or they over maintain their vehicles. People that are easy on vehicles don't have nearly as many problems.

I've owned three Toyotas that have branded (rebuilt) titles. So all three have been totaled before I got them. Two I've repaired myself. So if any vehicles should be problematic I figure totaled vehicles would be the ones to expect failures. But with over a hundred thousand miles between the three (65K, 30K, and 30K) I've had no mechanical failures since repairs were made... and I go into the outback and rough country more than most people. But I drive them to take care of them and not to break them.

there is nothing to diagnose. You have coolant between head and block. You dont have any coolant source near that.

the only thing that make you doubt is that it cost a lot to repair

Is the coolant level dropping slowly over time?

Gotta at least clean it up and watch before you call it a headgasket

But usually if it's a water pump or thermostat area the coolant will go straight down toward the crank pulley and front of block. Having a ton of pink crust over on the side by the exhaust side of the head is not a good sign

But I missed this. What about the manifold leak? That's above and forward of that crust in your pic. Can you see the manifold leak from above? Where is it?
