Anyone with a gen 2 tacoma and a spacer lift?
I am considering it as it's much cheaper then anything else, how does it do on & offroad?

On older trucks it strains the ball joints, sits high in the front and exposes old shocks at their worst.

Spacers on showroom trucks is fine, but older trucks I usually discourage.

I have a customer removing their spacers at 100k next week and going full coil overs and new arms. Usually toyota ball joints last a long time, but spacers push them to their limit from day one.

    Poorly, just don't!
Set a goal below 2" and there are many good choices, that will all :spending:

Look for a 3rd Gen. take off suspension, this will give you…. I think an inch or so. Not quite sure

It means you can put a 3rd gen suspension on a 2nd gen. If you do a simple search you will find your answer.

Op, I put a new 3rd gen take off suspension on my 2nd gen, gave me right about an inch of lift, rides great and got em cheap, check the buy/sell threads.
Sport suspension is a firmer ride, what I have and prefer, I don’t off-road much.
Off road suspension is more supple.

if you go this route you’ll need a 1/4 inch spacer on the driver side to keep from getting taco lean, due to the weight of the battery and gas tank.
    Something like this.

Yes, someone's take off Billies will give you an inch and a half, tops. A 1" spacer on the back is top. You will be pretty level, but DON'T ad bumper or winch weights.

Ah k makes sense, no winch weight?
I may then get 5100s at 1.75, debating between that as I am planning to get a winch too.

not sure if 5100 offers an HD spring.

Pretty sure I gave away my old 5100's, as that seemed to be the market value for them. I'd imagine same should go for 3rd gen factory parts.

There are a metric ton of lift threads here. Please search your interests. I am only advising against lift "pucks" as a cheap solution.

If you gonna put a winch, I would get thicker coil springs. Like OME 885/886/887’s. If you put 5100’s on oem coils, they will eventually sink under the added weight. You can compensate some by going up to the next height setting, but oem coils are not designed for that added weight.

Can you suggest some coils, and so coils also add height, I've heard this somewhere

On ARB website they recommend an 885 or 886 if you have a winch. I have 885’s. I have a 50-lb 2nd battery as the only extra weight at the front. My initial height gain was about 2.5” and I’m down to about 2 after almost 100K on my setup with 5100 Bilsteins set at the lowest height setting. I have an inch block in the rear and I have a slight rake.

2.5 inches of more ride height infront with 885? I don't want more then 1.5 inches, I don't want any rake at all, mb a little more height upward, I heard aal, leaf blocks etc are big work to put on I don't wanna get into that
