    by the vin number is there any sites out there that you can get what your tacomas original options were (that is free also that seems to be the catch)? i would like to know gear ratio, limited slip, and so on.

    01 SR: Double Cab conversion, S/C, lowered.
    The VIN number gives no clues about optional equipment, but you can infer certain things about standard equipment from the VIN. Even then, you need the Toyota spec sheets for the details.

    There was a time when Toyota offered free access to archived press releases dating back to the 1990's - including spec and option info. They quit doing that some time ago.

    Correct ... No 1995.5 - 2004 Tacoma ever came from the factory with a real (mechanical) LSD installed.

    The TRD LSD (like the TRD supercharger) was available as a dealer-installed accessory at the point of sale (as opposed to a factory option).

    In the 2004 model year only, the first Tacoma VSC / TRAC system was available as an option. This included the so-called 'Auto LSD' feature.
