Got into a wreck today. Guy ran a stop sign and I t-boned him going about 45MPH. When getting out, the driver door would not open more than about a foot and had to force it open causing a loud creak. Thankfully was able to walk away with just bruises (x-rays were clear). My 6yo also came out unscathed sitting in the back seat. Think insurance will want to fix this or total it? 2011 Pre-Runner TRD Off Road with ~112,000mi.

Oh man That sucks! Glad everyone is okay. Doesn’t look good. If the frame is okay maybe but otherwise it’s probably a write off.

Frame brackets are bent at the radiator support mounts, so most shops will probably give a high estimate for frame replacement, which will be deemed uneconomical to repair by the insurance co.

Think it’s a write off due to age and mileage. :( How does the other car look?

    Hahaha, thanks for the chuckle.

Appreciate everyone's input, now comes the task of dealing with insurance and figuring out a new ride.

Glad you're both okay. If the frame is hit, it's going to be totaled. If not, it might be repairable. The "good" thing I see is that the windshield isn't broken which means the cowl and A pillars are okay.

Do you know if the police cited the other driver?

Glad you’re ok. Your truck is toast. Get another one.

They will find a lot of hidden damage when they start taking it apart. It’s not just what you can see, it’s what you can’t see that must be figured in to the decision.

Totaled, that's into the fan clutch and idler bracket. Plus the bags are popped, depending on how your state is with a salvage title it may or may not be worth buying back. If you do have thoughts of buying it back locate the front clip first and rough cost of rad, condensor and what not.

That's even better from a determining fault stand point. Again, I'm glad neither you nor your son were hurt. The truck died to protect you, as it should have.

I don't see anyway that doesn't get totaled. Even if the frame wasn't tweaked at all, the airbag deployment skyrockets the cost to repair. Combine that with the obvious lights, grille, hood, fenders, bumpers, crush bar, etc. and it'll pass even the most lenient insurance threshold percentage for totaling it out.

I'm sorry that happened, man. Glad no one was hurt.

As for insurance and dealing with it, dig up values of similar trucks to yours to get an idea of what you are willing to except and contact your insurance, not his. You give his insurance info to your company and they can use their clout to push for coverage and they will get back to you with whatever the other company offers to pay. If your not happy with the offer, let them know what you expect and they can go back to his insurance co. with it. Part of why you pay for insurance is so you don't have to deal with other people's insurance companies.

Yikes! Glad you are both okay. I’m not a shop expert or an insurance expert but looks pretty bad to me. On a similar note - I got T-boned in my brand new ‘21 TRD Pro by someone running a red light . Thankfully nobody got hurt and the truck was not badly damaged - hit square on the rear rim. Pin holding leaf springs took the brunt of it - axle slid back a few inches. Drive shaft dropped. Truck is driving fine after 2500 miles. Whew..,
