I just helped someone go through something similar l.

Totaled 2012 DCSB PreRunner 135k miles “Texas Edition” (non-trd)

insurance initially offered $17k and we declined, they eventually came up to $22k after holding our ground.

Wow really, everything I was looking at showed the value being around 16-17k but being that the 2012 is the face-lifted version it may command a higher price.

Location plays a big role as well. The same truck will have different valuation in different regions.

I got hit in a similar location. I will just advise you to have the body shop check the axle bearing. In my case the axle bearing was damaged and the body shop sent it out to their mechanical guy to have it looked at. Ended up with a supplemental for the left axle to be replaced. Not the housing, just the axle itself.

get no obligation purchase quotes from Carmax, KBB ect. for your truck as a baseline for what to expect from insurance

    Here’s a similar truck:

    https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/5TFJU4GNXBX005427

I’d start making a list of all these over $20k. Be prepared to tell them how clean your truck was, how well maintained it was ,etc…. Push back. They may tell you that you’ll need to get a vehicle appraiser, tell them that’s no problem because they’re low balling you.

They’ll give you tax, title, and license too. One thing to keep in mind is that truck may have cost you around $26k when new, but a 3rd gen like that is closer to $40k now.

    Disgusting!!!!

Thank goodness you and your child are fine.

Nail this person to the wall as far as both your losses and their action!!

Sorry for venting but having had 2 family members recently harmed (one perhaps permanently) by people not giving a shit while driving this sucks

There should be some sort of extra compensation for damage caused by drunk drivers...

Glad you and your 6 yo made it out ok. Sorry to hear another 2nd Gen is no more...

Totalled but fixable as a beater truck in Texas. If you could do the work yourself I'd buy it back otherwise it will be sold/ fixed and driving again in Houston.

I'm hearing more about insurance not covering than giving extra.

Good to hear you and your boy are ok.

I've been with the same agent for a long time, he made sure my last claim included things I didn't think about like recent maintenance and parts. If you have receipts for anything aftermarket, put it on the table and make it clear it was purchased for and used on that truck.

Stick a fork in it. Sorry about the mishap. Most importantly, thrilled that nobody was hurt.

    Yeah looks totaled.
    But stick to your guns.
I got 17k from a contractors insurance because they got over spray paint on my 2022.
And that was after they were able to get all the paint clean. But could not do anything with the black trim.

Whelp, in anticipation of it being totaled, I went to the wrecker yard today and cleared out all of my stuff. Waiting on insurance to pick it up and take it over to their shop for the adjuster to look at it. Weirdly the driver front tire was flat today and also had a dead battery. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
