Have you actually looked at those metrics? Their clean energy only accounts for 3% of thier total production, its only leading because they produce more energy than the US and Russia combined.

What gets lost is they are the leading producer of renewable energy SOURCES, meaning the US and other countries are basically paying for Chinas renewable energy production and investments.

Humans have always tried to control the balance of nature, often because we messed it up in the first place, just ask the Buffalo and the Whales about it. The solution is easy but one no one wants to say or hear, stop breeding, cut the population by 75% and reduce the energy and industrialization needs.

Shit, I tell people they shouldn’t breed fairly often.

Nothing you said refutes my points.

China is the leading energy producer because we let them. Most of that technology was invented here, but because our political parties are too busy fighting over it there is no market, so china buys it.

Yes, nobody says "stop breeding" because it won't ever go anywhere. The Nazis tried it, that didn't go well. China tries it and that is one of the very things we look down on them for. You know china has those policies right? So do you look up to china for their "one child" policies?
Yeah, people affect the planet, great, now let's do something we can actually accomplish and not just grandstand on topics that won't ever happen. That's just another form of letting perfect get in the way of good.

Ahhh…the old “strawman” dig…real original! Lol! Dang yous guys need new material.

I love love love science. Remembering watching show on geology. The geologist and a climate scientist were looking at a rapidly receding glacier. The geologist was very excited to study the rocks underneath, since no human has ever laid eyes on it before, the climate scientist scolded him for getting excited. Pretty much tells you everything right there.

What is the solution? Zero population growth until we are at more sustainable levels would be a start…the rate we are going now doesn’t look good. Think about it. It is economical and violence free. You don’t have to stop having coitus, just quit reproducing. However that would be a very unpopular solution.

Cutting back on our insatiable appetite for consumerism would be another. As @batacoma was saying, the amount of absolute useless bullshit that people buy is mind boggling! It a is major contributor to greenhouse gases, pollution, resources and energy. However guys like Musk think a life of excess is the answer. Why he has so many devoted cult followers. “You mean we can consume with no bounds!? and have our cake too!?

….ummm no, we have finite resources unfortunately. But yeah keep putting him up on a golden pedestal.

Hows ‘bout those $100K Rivians, eh? That should fix it! Arguing over luxury vehicles while billions of people don’t have clean water is rather appalling.

Before anything, why don’t we start with helping those billions people get access to water?

Millions upon millions of people that are addicted to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and food. We can’t even take care of ourselves, it is rather naive to think we can take care of the planet too.

So there you go, a few solutions just to start… (I have loads more)

Doesn't make it not a strawman. Find ways to ignore it all you want but until you recognize it you will still be manipulated by it.

How that latest Space X launch go? Talking about taking greenhouses right to atmosphere…guess the planet is warming fast enough for Elon.

How many new Tesla plants are being proposed? Selling a few houses, don’t think that is enough carbon credits to cover those.

Did you want me to specifically refute them, can we not just have a discussion, my points are still valid.

China hasn’t had a one child policy in a long time and their birth rate is negative.

There’s nothing you can do about the planet at this point, human population requires over industrialization and consumption of resources.

The Starship test launch went better than expected. Did you think they were going to the moon on the first launch?

Be nice if it didn’t explode…how many is that now? Hey it is cool and all, not exactly eco-friendly tho’.

Speaking of life of excess: https://www.npr.org/2022/11/09/1135446721/billionaires-carbon-dioxide-emissions

You keep on using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means…

Think the last time we conversed, you were trying to quit sugar or something along those lines. How is that going? Could you imagine how much healthier we could be if we all could quit sugar? Hey look there is another solution for saving the planet! Dang! I am on a roll! ….err better not eat that either, watching my carbs. Lol!

    I am here to help!

    BOOM! :D :nuclear:

Off the top of my head it’s the third total destruction of any part of the Starship/Super Heavy development. In the mean time SpaceX has launched, landed and reused their more standard design Falcon 9 rocket 157 times.

Of the 157 launches, how many of them genuinely benefited the human race

None? It really depends on the definition of a genuine benefit. About 80 of the 200ish Falcon 9 launches have been Starlink satellites. That genuinely benefits me as a Starlink user. Plenty of ISS supply missions ferrying experiments that can be beneficial, a few crew launches for people to do that research, satellites for countries around the world for all kinds of purposes, etc.

Agreed, basically none. That’s kind of the point of this whole thing, internet is nice, EVs make you feel better but in the end don’t actually make things better for people.

Thanks! Only half pay attention to all those launches, ones I do witness usually blow up.

Did get see a string of starlink satellites zip overhead one night, total accident just happen to be taking the trash out. It was cool. Thought they were Japanese lanterns at first, maybe there was some festival going on over the hill. Neighbor thought they were UFOs….nah man there has to be scientific explanation for it. Quick google search…well there you go! Could even map their path.

At least Gates is working on an energy solution. On the board of TerraPower, neighbor is a foreman on one of the crews building it here in Idaho.

Nuclear is carbon free but still generates a lot of indisposible waste. I think the answer may be Fusion but we are decades away.

I wouldn’t say an EV makes me feel any better but it is nice to have this one. Good fit all around for what I need to do and dirt cheap to operate so far. It definitely doesn’t save me any money over keeping my old Tacomas but it is far more truck and I’m a spoiled American and like nice stuff.

Yeah nuclear is a bit scary. When that reactor in Japan had a meltdown, remember the owners of the E-Recycling place my wife worked at, gave of us a link to a radiation tracker map, iodine pills and a Geiger Counter. They were kinda preppers to say the least. I see that Europe has fired up some plants that have been offline for awhile to fulfill their energy needs.

Was reading some science rag recently, stated fusion is the only way for EVs to be viable globally.

Client in today had a Tesla, she let me drive it once. Damn! Pretty dang zippy. Doesn’t really scream luxury to me vs a Merc or BMW, fun to drive…at least in a straight line.

It is weird, my dad’s side do the life of excess, my moms side are very low key and don’t need much. Was just visiting them, aunt has a small house drives a Prius C, her best friend lives similar, so does my mom. They are from the mindset of live simply so that others can simply live. Dunno felt grounded around them, and uncomfortable around my dads. Gawd they have so much stuff! Most of it never gets used, it just sits there.

Think her Prius was sub $20K in 2019, far less resources and energy to buy that vs a $100K EV. Heck I am trying to get to the point in life where I only need a bicycle for doing errands.
