Rear disc brakes

Is it on all the new tacoma models?

 

Is there a kit available yet to retrofit Drums to a 4th Gen and make it into a real truck?
I hear Discs are trash...

 

Specs aren't out yet but I think they will be on all models.

 

I would suspect every trim level would have rear discs, wouldn't really make sense to just have drums on the base SR.

 

Toyota would not tease out discs last week only to sneak drums back in on lower tier production models later. It will be discs across the board.

January spy photos of what's reported as the TRD OR and SR5 (judging by the street tires and airdam) both show rear disc brakes:

Add to the list CD players, suicide doors, manual transmission, leaf springs, power steering pump...

 

Drum brakes are actually superior, never question Toyota engineers

 

No more access cab

 

I think there will still be an available access cab, but will have mini rear doors instead of the clamshell doors.

You mean like the Tundra SR and SR5?

 

That would be my guess, seems like they will still need a budget model.

That reminds me of the clip when TFL had one of the lead Toyota engineers on their channel for a ride along/evaluation of the (then) current Tacoma.
TFL: "The Tacoma has drum brakes out back, while nearly every other vehicle on the road has 4 wheel disc brakes. Why is that?"
Toyota engineer: "Yes, the Tacoma has drum brakes."

 

Which is why dump trucks, school buses and other heavy vehicles still use them.

I often wonder if much of the anguish written about here is because folks just don't know how to work on them?

 

I honestly can't tell a difference when driving a rear drum vehicle (3rd gen Tacoma) vs all the other cars
they all brake adequately (and yes, if I brake hard on the Tacoma, I can lock up the wheels briefly before ABS kicks in), and some might have different pedal feel, but that's about it

so, maybe I prefer drum so I don't have to clean brake dust as often
