Car Fridge/Power Options

How do you guys power your car fridge/freezer?

 

Marine duplex 10 AWG cable running directly to the battery down along the frame and into the truck bed. Powered using DC, because it's inefficient (waste of energy) to turn the truck's DC power into AC to have the fridge turn it back into DC again internally.

Ive got an SR too. Nice set up. How long does that battery last powering your fridge? Plan on using it 5 days camping.

 

About a day, day and a half. It uses 50 watts when running, so only about 14 hours running nonstop, but after it's cold it only runs for 15-30 minutes an hour.

TBH I've never run it all the way down, and before we do any multi-day camping I'll get a small solar panel to keep it topped up.

We tend to do drive-stop-drive-stop kind of trips so I can top it up while driving.

This brand (Ecoflow) can also fast charge to 80% in an hour so you can fill it at Starbucks or whatever if you're ever in a bind.

how do you keep the EcoFlow from draining the main battery dry overnight?

 

Yes, I hardwired it for simplicity. I only charge it when driving and "let it ride" overnight. I don't worry about if we stop somewhere for lunch but if we go into a store I turn it off. With a 100-watt draw, it's like leaving the headlights on.

 

400w anytime mod with a Jackery, Alpicool 45 with portable 120w solar panel just incase.

Are the Jackery and alpicool both in the cab? Or bed?

“let it ride” as in manually unplug at bedtime and run fridge off EcoFlow?

 

Great suggestions. I’m driving cross country in a few days and needed something simple and quick to store food so I’m glad I came across this thread. I just up picked up a 300w power station and a bougerv 26qt 12v fridge.

I plan on running the fridge and charging the power station off the trucks stock 12v during the day while driving and then using the power station at night to keep the fridge powered. The 300w should keep it powered for about 8 hours so that should be just enough to keep it cold all the time

how would you charge the power station and fridge at the same time if there’s only one cig lighter 12v port?

I bought one to power my heater during the winter since most 12v top out at 10A and on start up most diesel heaters get above that.

I have the ecoflow plugged into the power outlet in the bed and the cooler plugged in to the Ecoflow. When we get to a stopping point, I open the tailgate and turn off the switch on the power outlet. If the Ecoflow is dead, it will recharge in about 7 hours from the 12-volt plug or you can take it into a restaurant and top it.up in about an hour. It's a great little device!

The Ecoflow will run the cooler for about two days so it works great. We usually bring shelf stable food so the cooler is just for drinks. So sometimes I just turn it all off at night since we don't really have anything perishable and because it stays cold enough since it's a cooler.
