We use the 12v version of that on 2 pieces of our equipment. They don't like being left on. When I first started years ago, we had the fan turn on when the keyswitch was on, run em non stop. They'd get warrantied like mad, only lasting an avg of 500hrs before the fan burned up. Ive used the 24v version on my 480V unit but ive never had to warranty one of those fans. All Those SPALs have a huge inrush current. An easy 3x amp draw, so contactors would be a better solution if you're sticking with electrical.

Honestly, I'd drive to fab up a hydraulic solution. You mention the pumps were discontinued, but is the anyway to sub the pump out? Or change location and have it belt driven? I've experienced way better cooling and fewer faults with hydraulic setups

I have this NES accessory, I think it’s called the Konami U-Force, that’s basically a motion sensor and you can punch in the air and it registers it in game.

I’m in 100% agreement that the hydraulic setup was better. They never failed and the Cummins ISX could push it with room to spare. Unfortunately the tour company we bought these buses from scrapped all the hydraulic stuff so we have nothing left.

We’re basically stuck with the e-fans basically.

I’m familiar with PWM for use in computers, but not the IGBT part. Could you elaborate?

Yeah I'll keep my eyes open

Been looking for a good one since last year, only issue is they're either beat to crap and I don't want to refurb one, or they're those Best Buy variants

May just buy an old one and go replacing the screen and all

Don’t you dare replace the screen. Have it rebuilt.

@treyus30 This is a specific bus that uses what I believe to be contactors and hasn’t failed yet. I still think the fans run 100% at all times though.

The other way you could go is a solid state controller - no contacts to burn up. No idea if this one is any good but it shows the concept:

    https://usradiator.com/product/ss-2-solid-state-fan-controller

You might even be able to find some that have a soft start circuit.

Edit: or perhaps just a solid state relay with a diode.

actually - do the contractors have any kind of fly back diode? If not that might be killing them when the bus shuts off

Hey, better than T9. Don't want to go full dumb phone, so it's a good compromise. Has everything I need but also I don't wanna use it much and its small enough to disappear, win win. In theory. I'm just over phones, but having maps and texts etc is nice. LightPhone is cool but things like sharing photos is a pain.
