So I’m the guy making a thread without pics:anonymous: I’ve had my new rig for three months and just noticed the gas door isn’t aligned. Closes but sticks out about a half in when closed on the side opposite of the hinge. Has anyone come across this, possibly like me you ordered the “no panel matches up” factory installed package  Any strategies used would be greatly appreciated. I’m out of town and this is what I’m thinking about, oh the life of a Tacoma owner.

If the dealer is not too far away - I would pop in and discuss it. Easy fix for a body guy. Sometimes the gas attendants force them open.

It’s going to be hard to for them to claim under warranty, as you may have bent it. That said, if they can just tweak it, they may at no charge, so it doesn’t hurt to ask.

The fuel door seems pretty light duty on these. Also I lube the hinges, as many seem to have issues on older/higher mileage trucks with them bending when the springs stick from lack of lube.

Yes. Does that get in the way when closed? I guess I find comfort that all you have heard of it. I’ll mess around by hand and then put my big boy pants on.

On higher-time trucks, if the fuel door hinge isn't greased, then it can seize and bend the hinge pin (thin rod) causing this condition. It isn't expected with a new truck not even past it's first oil change interval (where the greasing happens). Take it to the dealer (preferably one with a body shop) for them to either tweak it straight or replace the door & hinge under warranty.

Minor tweak at the dealer, all good. They’ve seen it before on Tacos & other Toyota trucks.

The basic parts & design for a Toyota fuel door probably hasn’t changed in 30 years- they don’t like being yanked too far bk.

My wife’s Sienna gas door had hinge issues. We bought it used from Carmax and the factory warranties were over. Our local Toyota dealer still fixed it free as a ‘customer care issue’.

Ok, fixed. Couldn’t deal with the dealer so I took it all apart. With the plastic surround removed around the cap I could close it fine so I realized it was the rubber bump stops that were preventing it from closing flush. I cut them both with a razor blade and boom, flush. Thank you to all of you who stood by me through this perilous journey.
