I sent the attached letter to Toyota Headquarters a couple weeks ago by certified mail, return receipt requested, to make sure they received it. This was after several calls to customer engagement to complain. I wanted to formaly document my concerns. I got a message to call Toyota Headquarters today and they gave me the 800 number to customer service. They have a case number for me with all my documentation. They couldn't explain why all the other Toyota makes & models have been covered under the extended paint program but not the Tacoma. I was told your VIN number is not covered at this time. So they blew me off but one rep said that the more comlaints they get about Tacomas they may decide to include them.

I started to notice these 2 dark spots on my door few months ago that looked like a shadow let a guy at a local body shop here in Jonesborough TN look at it he said looked to him like the paint was very thin and is wearing away from the metal. So Sat I was installing new LED lights noticed ontop of the passenger side fender under the hood paint is peeling away.. 2016 TRD Off-road that’s been taking great care of 68k mikes it’s a shame

It’s absolutely insane how every truck with this issue has it start in the exact same spot.

Everybody file a complaint with corporate so we can get our vehicles added to the customer service program.

Anybody in the seattle area have this issue and get it resolved by the dealer? I may take care of this if there is a good place to go otherwise I might just wait to see if theyll add to the current campaign.

I’ve got spots on and under the hood as well. It’s shitty because none of my mods or accessories touch the problem areas so I know there is no way it’s anything I did by modifying the truck

I’ve been fortunate in that area so far, knock on wood, but expectations are low. It just gets me that it’s the same spot on the rear door around the window that starts peeling first, or at least all the vehicles have that spot in common.

not that I can help but I wouldn’t mention you washed it with a power washer. They will likely claim to much power.

Yeah definitely, thanks for the suggestion. Although I used a regular hose when washing my truck when this happened so it isn't like I'd be lying about it either smh

Power washing should not contribute to peeling paint, especially since it is the notorious white 040 paint only. Just guessing…….

Blows my mind seeing this from Toyota. I remember this happening to white Chevy trucks in the 1990s.

Yes, we have some in our fleet that have that issue and look like hell with large areas of missing white paint and 2 different layers of primer showing.

My 2017 Super White Tacoma was also manufactured in Baja (Mexico). Keep complaining to Toyota.

I’m a rookie Tacoma driver…this being my first. I love the Super White, but it chips when the wind blows! Kidding…but it doesn’t take much at all to chip the paint.
