    Hi everyone!

Brand new Tacoma owner here with a clutch question/ask for advice. I just picked up my brand new truck last week and am having a lot of trouble adjusting to the clutch - not killing it or anything but it's causing some pain and feels off. Specifically, I am having to push really hard and far, especially for a start-up shift for instance.

I did some searching and came across some previous threads, including ones with specs saying the pedal should be 7 to 7.41 inches on the height measurement

    (For reference:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-manual-tacoma-clutch-engagement-adjustment.640297/)

Well I measured mine and low and behold mine is measuring 6.13"

    Questions for more experienced folks:
-is this inch difference likely to be causing some of the issues I'm having?
-is this better addressed by me or taken to a dealer? the dealer we purchased from is not local and I'd prefer to fix it myself if that's advisable
    -any tips/links to threads welcome

thanks for reading. happy to be a part of the tacoma club!

tacoma clutches are really stiff. I have a car that I switch between, and after I go from my tacoma to my car I feel like im gonna push my foot through the floor because my cars clutch is so much lighter than my tacoma. You definitely just have to get used to it just like any vehicle. All clutches are gonna feel a little different than others, and I honestly wouldnt mess with the adjustment, especially if its brand new. If you are having issues with the clutch engagement while driving it could be due to the accumulator, so you might wanna look into the accumulator delete.

I recommend that you look into the Accumulator Delete Mod (ADM) if you are looking for the true feel of the clutch. The Clutch Accumulator deadens the feel and won't let you balance the clutch on a slope without slipping and roasting it until you get that burnt clutch smell.

I agree, I did the accumulator delete disc, and the clutch is so much better!

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll plan to leave it as is and just adjust shoes/seating position etc. ADM looks cool but probably more than I want to do right now - I've gotten a feel for the truck shifting at speed and am doing fine there, really just struggling with that full depress to get from stopped to 1st.

If you can have it checked out, do it. The 23 has the lightest clutch I've ever felt in all the 3rd gens.

i have owned mostly vehicles with MT's and the 3G tacoma with the MT is by far the more difficult to drive and get used to. i would not want to teach someone to drive on this truck.

it took me a few thousand miles to get used to it. i still don't entirely like it but we get along much better. i have not and probably won't delete the accumulator.

i suggest driving it for a few thousand miles before deciding.

I just took delivery on mine. I have had no issues adjusting to the clutch or transmission. Actually it's very pleasant shifting compared to other vehicles I've owned. Maybe you just need more time to get comfortable driving it.

An inch seems like a lot.

If it was me, I'd fix it at home. You'll have to decide that for yourself. The warranty period for most parts of the clutch is wicked short. It's a super tight area to work in.

The thread that you linked is all there is in the SM.

From your description, I'd highly recommend the ADM. If you get @Firn 's disk, it is 100% reversible at any time.

Just sayin' that the first and last sentence are very contradictory as the ADM will likely fix your issue. Although, I do agree that giving it some miles is always a good idea.

    X2 on the ADM.

Clutch fluid accumulator definitely makes it harder to drive for experienced MT drivers.

I've found this clutch very forgiving but also takes more focus to be smooth if that makes sense. I really need to do the accumulator delete and switch to a better transmission fluid. The 1-2 shift is crunchy when cold.

Makes perfect sense and deleting the accumulator will help immensely.

I hear good mt fluid helps all around.

Just ordered Firn's ADD as well. Is this an easy DIY job?

My only concern is bleeding the clutch after install. Never bled a clutch before. I have bled brakes before, but with the bleed kit (triggered hand pump).

Pretty easy, actually very easy. Hardest part is putting the top bolt BACK into the heat shield.

Your truck is new so rust isn't an issue, still flare nut wrenches are advised (but I didn't use them).

Bleeding the clutch is just as easy. It will pop to the floor when pressed and stay there, just pull it back up. Personally I like to use the old school bleed method (open as the helper moves the pedal) but also having them hold the pedal to the floor and just cracking the bleeder uses the clutch springs to bleed too, I felt using both regularly worked best

I went from a 5 speed ferd focus to this Tacoma 6 speed and yes this creature takes a little getting used to. I just rolled over 3k miles and I'm ten times smoother than I was the first week. Reverse is still a mystery though, I'm not used to having to add throttle for basic reverse maneuvers but this one wants it that way.
