I didn't, but a really good friend did. I was looking for a new "work watch" and he was trying to thin his collection. I do want to build one though.

Thanks it is a neat piece and they seem to be asking about 2k more than I paid a few weeks ago. Hopefully it continues to go up.

Stupid automatic watch part question. The weight (rotor?) that moves around to wind the watch, does it work to wind the watch no matter which way it turns?

I believe that depends on the movement/ manufacturer... If I remember correctly the seikos mostly do....

According to a watchuseek member on your movement

"The bi-directional movement of the rotor is, more or less, translated into unidirectional movement that will wind the watch. Without going into too much detail, your watch will wind automatically regardless of the direction the rotor is spinning.

If you're hand-winding, the crown can only be turned in one direction to wind the watch.
    "

Here's a "Rolex of China". A hand wind only Shanghai watch... Love the simplicity, old school vibe and size of it for my wrist...a better leather band is coming for it... From where else? .... China of course.

Here's the literal "Rolex of China," my shitty counterfeit GMT II. Good beater, keeps accurate time. Saves me from putting chips and scratches in a real high-end piece like an Orient Ray II.

What you got is a 4r movement. Any way the rotor turns it winds the watch along with manual winding if you like. The power reserve should last around 40 hours. It's a decent movement. I use the aftermarket version of that movement in lots of watches I've built. It's LS of watches.

I like those, and if you put a swiss strap on it, it may qualify for swiss made if you use Switzerland's criteria for swiss made. LOL

I had a job where I was forced to wear a watch. Once that job ended in '96 I had no need for a watch -- my iPhone in my pocket handles time duties.

I have had a job for the last 30 years where I have been forced to wear a cellular cowbell, once this one ends, I'll have no reason for a cell phone .

$20 waterproof Casio. I'm around water a lot and my watches get beat.

I have a much nicer Casio diving watch that I never wear. Too heavy and too nice to destroy. I had a beautiful Rolex Submariner that I lost while surfing, that's why I stick to the twenty buckers. $20, $200 or $2000; time is the same.

In areas with no cell coverage, it's watch, sundial, or eventually miss something.

Pretty sure it's from China but they do sometimes make some nice stuff....
Today I'm wearing a Guanqin... Which really looks pretty awesome for the coin.

I think the rules for made in Switzerland are something like 60% of the manufacturing cost must be generated in Switzerland to be declared made in Switzerland. A $60 watch strap might just qualify it. LOL

    I like it.

I'm always surprised by how well Casio can make such a tough accurate wristwatch so inexpensive.
