Oil filter leak

I don't know why that bolt is missing, the truck had 50,000 miles when I purchased it so somewhere along the way it was removed and not replaced or fell out (unlikely).

And yes, the vette is a factory equipped A/C car. C2's came out when I was in high school and a classmate had one which I fell in love with, promising myself that I'd own one someday. Ten years later I bought this one as a college graduation present to myself. Why it took 10 years is another story but in my search I had two requirements: one that it be a factory A/C car and two, that it had disc brakes. I also had a strong preference for the L79 motor, a 350/327. This car hit all three marks. Over time the original motor became too valuable to keep thrashing it as I loved to do so I built the 406. I coupled that with a custom 5 speed and ditched the multiple V-belts with a serpentine setup, replacing the big compressor with a compact Sanden. It was at that time I also did my first mod to the body - triple taillights! That was something I always wanted but the tiny bit of purist in me resisted until I made all these other changes.

 

I've always been a Vette lover, but never an owner. I had every year Chevelle from 66-72 at one time or another-- that's as close as I was able to come to a Corvette.

 

Love the yellow Vette! I drove a white C6 with the LS3 motor for 7 years. That thing was a fucking rocket. But my wife absolutely hated getting in and out of that car. But I do miss the thrill of acceleration that car provided.

 

All sorts of posts here about forgetting to remove that o-ring or forgetting to put a new one in....search TW and read up then just do it yourself.

 

There's a number of Chevelles that I've always liked. A high school classmate had a 64 red convertible with white top/interior, 4 speed and V8 and I thought that was a beautiful car. My best friend's dad had a 70 LS6 (454/450) that he would loan to me anytime I wanted since I did whatever wrenching on it he asked. I thought his previous 64 Hemi Charger was fast but that Chevelle was incredible. I would have loved owning that car! Knowing my vette is lighter with close to 100 more horsepower still gives me pause.

 

That's precisely why mine leaked. First they skipped on changing the filter during a previous oil change and this time they skipped replacing the O-ring. Disgraceful!

Very nice! Mine too was all original with matching numbers when I bought it and I still have the original motor/tranny for whoever I gets it after I die but it's staying this way as long as I'm driving it.

I guess I'm at the age where I look back and say "wow, I can't believe all the great cars my friends and I had"-- It won't happen again.

 

They also miss removing the old one because it's black and so is the oil and they put a new one in. This is the worst because it causes a *very* slow leak so you won't notice it for days or even longer, but it *will* start to leak. Tolerances are simply too tight in modern engines.
