My son just bought a 2021 Tacoma with the insulated storage cooler on one side of the bed, and a storage bin on the other. They both fill up with water any time it rains, goes through the car wash, etc. The Toyota dealer replaced the insulated cooler once and it immediately filled up again after running it through the car wash right after leaving service center. They both leak, and Toyota's tech department has claimed" that is how they are supposed to work "and refusing to fix it. Who in their right mind would ever purchase that accessory unless they planned on hauling around gold fish. They have never been used by my son. Has anyone else had trouble?

Sorry—new here! I have the same issue with my 2021 Trail Edition. The cooler and tool box holds moisture/water. My damn tools are corroded and my bungies and tie downs smell awful and are wet. I expected more—only really complaint I’ve had with the truck—that and the bed cover that limits what I can put in the bed. Has anyone heard anything about a recall or anything? I am going to ask the dealership to look at it on Monday when I get my service work completed.

image.jpg I am unfamiliar with that set up. However, I purchased a Leer cap for my ‘22 ELG Pro & learned from the installer (VG place my fam has used for years) that Toyota from factory has some gaps around the bed. Please don’t quote, just trying to help ya out. IMG_1737.jpg
I only have my experience to share. I questioned why tape was added(see photo) as I had the same Leer topper for 10yrs on my S10 w/ no leaks or tape. I was told about said gaps

Remove the boxes and put them on CL.

They'll just be in the way whenever it's used as a truck anyway.

    IMHO of course.

I think the caps are what's built wrong. They should have been molded to fit the way the bed is produced.

Anything that goes in those bins goes into some type of waterproof container or a zippy bag...learned that early with those bins.

Recalls are for safety issues. Looks like Toyota slapped a a plastic cubby without weather sealing. Probably meant to store fish in the sides after a fishing trip. Easy to hose out for the person who likes the outdoors!

This has nothing to do with this guy's leaky totes, but I have a suggestion for you guys whose totes slide all over these damn slippery bed surfaces.
I put down two 6" strips of velcro on the bed floor where I want my tote and put 2 strips on the bottom of my tote. It stays by the tailgate where I want it and is easy to remove when it's in the way.

X2 on both of these. The bins are a gimmick. Remove them and sell or toss'em. plenty of good bins and coolers in this world that are easily removable and more customizable to your needs and bedspace.

I use a bin also and if it’s in my way I can easily remove it. IMG_9527.jpg

Bin on a platform allows me to use the floor area of the bed. Here it has sand bags for winter over the axle.
