I have not seen it regularly on the shelf in my area. But the stores get it pretty often. I'd say 3 weekends a month or so. When they have it I usually buy it cause it's cheap and pretty good for the money.

i have those glasses! they dont have the fancy WTF on them... but the glasses were cool.

my young guys who are in a whiskey tasting club had to teach me what they were for & how to use them. so heres your laugh of the morning.

grew up drinking whiskey & wine. (cant do beer) but once i got past the teenage years & being stupid with it? its purely social or having a few drinks with some friends while playing spades, hearts or rummy. since im a SE Ohio hilljack? i drink my whiskey straight with a chaser.

my young guys do all this fancy sniff, smell, let it air out, hold it in the mouth, swish it around then kinda swallow it. when they tried to educate me on this? i about blew a gasket.

WTF are you clowns doing? you pour a drink, you drink it. lather, rinse, repeat as needed with a chaser here & there.

guys looked at me like i was nuts. then they start going on about all the 2nd & 3rd notes & some type of new age bullshit. hell ive never tasted any of that. i taste whiskey. :)

its either good or its not. they about fell in the floor when they heard that i always chase my Wild Turkey with Mt Dew. (dont laugh its delicious!!)

so the kids start bringing me 1oz samples of all these whiskeys from their club. will never get the names right, but you guys will know them. they brought blantons reserve, woodford reserve, all kinds of special cold filters & single this & that. they brought me one that 126 proof or something like that & it was "hot". tasted like shit, but it was hot.

one day they came in with this stuff they had been bragging on for weeks while they waited on it. tried my best to have an open mind & do it their way. let it sit 10 mins, sniffed it, side to side, breathed it some more.... blah blah blah, drank it.............. i looked at them & they said: well what ya think, be honest? well im that.

told em that was real expensive toilet water. it was awful. rough, hot, not good flavor. they died laughing. evidently i just dont have a "layered pallet for whiskey". that was their conclusion. Thats when they bought me that fancy bottle i posted earlier. :)

so i introduced them to my world of whiskeys from my youth. black jackD, JimBeam, black velvet, early times & some evan williams. soon they understood why wild turkey & crown are my favorites. also introduced them to bird dog peach & my homemade sangria's. we found a good common ground. they still bring me things to test just to see my expression & i make them Sangria's & Xmas punch every year.

good guys... even if they do call me "old man" ...

Curious what you think. I had a pour of this a month ago maybe 30 mins from the distillery. I wasn’t impressed. However a bunch of people on that trip later got sick, and for me I got a positive COVID test the following week, so it’s possible my taste was off.

@Hook78 when I crack it open, I’ll report back. I do like the bottle though. Nice details to it. Something I’ll keep, perhaps use as an infinity bottle if I ever start one of those up.

So at the risk of being run out of here. I've tried it also and someone asked me what I thought. I was like it's burny. SOMETIMES in different ones I can taste some notes (or at least I think I can). In reality I'm a tequila guy and it's probably killed all those high falutin taste buds off.

The bottom line is there’s no right way to drink whiskey, the only thing that matters is that you enjoy whatever it is you’re doing.

Really it’s the same thing with food. In some cases you’re just hungry and you eat the sandwich. Maybe, depending on the person, there’s a time when an awful lot of effort goes into making the sandwich taste a certain way or have a certain texture, and if you slow down and savor it you might pick up whatever those details are. But, you can also still just eat it because you’re hungry.

I can’t pick up and differentiate all the notes and flavor details that the critics pretend they can, but I do notice plenty of difference from bottle to bottle, and since I’m a sipper anyway, gives me some time to notice and appreciate some details.

oh man, i like expensive whiskeys, but I'm going to be honest with you. 4 roses, Tin cup, Wild Turkey, and Gambler 500 are usually the 4bottles up front. my friends know if they want something nicer you have to find them further back in the cupboard. my good friend found my Suntory Toki in the back and asked about it poured some and a splash of soda water, and sent him to the table with some food, and he was so excited to have something special. then after that back to the 4 roses, and margaritas my wife made for taco night

    you guys/gals make me smile.

wife says its cause im an uneducated hilljack with unrefined tastes. LMAO Yet i chose her. nuff said?

now the style of drinking for me kinda varies on the activity.

if having trouble sleeping (sleep hates me) yeah will knock a couple shots back.

playing cards or something? yeah its usually loser of the hand does a shot.

just chilling watching a sunset on the porch? sipping for sure & sometimes as a mixed drink.

the days of working 12hrs shifts, driving for 2hrs then going out for 6hrs & sleeping for 4hrs are long over.

    What he said.

I can tell plenty of difference between Booker's and WT101 and Jim Beam White.

But as far as tasting notes with all the silliness (Raisins! Old Leather! Tobacco Smoke! When the fuck have you people been eating old leather and why?! GRASS CLIPPINGS?!), I gave up on that a long time ago. Some bottles I'll get very forward caramel, or vanilla, or cherry or whatever, but rarely more than 2 notes and never more than 3.

Like others, I can taste subtle differences in sweetness as well as if it’s spicy on the front end or not. I can detect some differences in aroma but nothing like the descriptions you see on BreakingBourbon or something.

…also, I couldn’t tell you what leather tastes like. Guess I haven’t found that special woman yet.

Well..I’m glad to hear this. That tasting wheel I posted a few weeks ago. I’ve had it out a few times for new pours….I laughed and said yep..it’s got a nice sweetness I like, it has the viscosity I like and the flavor stays around for a bit. That’s about where i was able to go. I do know I like Oaked bourbons and can pick that out. But that is about where I can get to at this point!

I only go in once or twice a month...guess I'm just missing the one hour the stuff is actually on the shelf...folks who work there say it disappears within hours of getting it in.

So I really thought I was over the bourbon thing, but this was very tempting and I basically tripped over it. BT is a single barrel select by the state.
