Not so bad if you know how to do so without appling the actual brakes. The Tacoma is a bit more sensitive than some cars but still relatively easy to do. Sometimes good to do just to let other cars behind that something is going on.

9 and 3 was discouraged for many years because you could brake your thumbs with airbag deployment. 10 and 2 is totally acceptable but gives you less control. Pick your poison.
I was a driving instructor for a short period while furloughed from my main job.

ACC is great! I haven't turned my headlights on at night in years. Just set ACC and I'm good to go! </sarcasm>

Yep, which is written for every car on the road, including those without TC. Have you been in a Tacoma when the traction control kicks in? Either you should have been feeling the car start to hydroplane and been slowing already but if not it will kick that cruise off as fast as you can lift your foot. It's not going to be applying throttle to speed up

Risk Management--there's a thought. (No sarcasm intended)

    What are the risks?

    What does the manual say?

I know the arguments are all opinion but...you bring up a good point in your clincher statement.

I don't have cruise control on in situations where traction control would turn on.

    That would be irresponsible.

At the end I’m specifically referring to the risk of complacency by using automation (in this case adaptive cruise control). Lots of things can play a role here: lack of sleep, length of drive, driver experience, etc. any benefits get thrown out the window if you’re asleep at the wheel :)

I rarely use the ACC just because of my driving patterns, there’s usually enough people around that it’s easier to adjust my speed manually in accordance to what’s going on around me. Also the damned thing is too touchy on the brakes and I don’t like looking like a moron tapping my brakes at 70 mph just to slow down a mph or two.

I’m just trying to throw some perspective in here and give credit where it’s due. I think others have done a good enough job of calling out some of their faults.

Specific risk of complacency...targeting lack of sleep + other variables, I agree that proper rest is part of responsible driving.

Another responsibility is knowing the risks the manual says about the system being used; it should, at least be considered in the overall equation.

I notice lots of member interactions in TW involve dialogue that doesn't invite constructive criticism...at least, people react differently and then the conversations turn to crap and people start to call these Friday threads. lol

It's almost as if people aren't entitled to their opinions if it doesn't pass the smell test...and a lot of members here are tuned in to those opinions.

Posting threads about our decisions on TW come as a packaged deal...it's gonna raise eyebrows if an opinion can be debated.

But, it's all part of being on a forum...having these adult discussions about what we do with our trucks and how we drive them.

Exactly. However I don't appreciate people debating facts lol. I swear I could post 2+2=4 and someone would think that's a debatable subject.

Again as the devil’s advocate, and as someone who doesn’t use cruise in the rain, I’ll add this: it’s important to know what the manual says. It’s also important to know WHY the manual says it. I think it’s fair to say that some warnings are there for the lowest common denominator and might not always apply for more experienced and skilled drivers. I really don’t think it’s a big deal for a competent driver to use cruise in the rain if there’s safety features embedded in it to prevent a loss of control in low traction situation, and especially if the driver is comfortable disabling it on a moment’s notice and competent with managing oversteer and other possible excursions from the normal operating envelope.
I would venture to say from reading their comments that neither OP nor Firn are Ken Block, but I’d give them considerably more credit than your stereotypical suburban soccer mom (no offense intended to any of you soccer moms ).

I did that once or twice as a training exercise, where I had to put my depth gauge against the right side of my goggles and my compass against the left eye, while my dive partner hung onto my right shoulder and used the other hand to block collisions. Cross the quarry and find the sunken waypoint in zero visibility.

My fins were not equipped with cruise control.

    Again,

I will refer to Risk Management as a whole.

Regardless of the specific designation, knowledge of the dynamics of technology involved cannot be overstated.

There's a human factor which should take into account the risks involved with any given situation.

From what I read in the manual, DRCC should not be used in the conditions mentioned.

That's enough for me to decide not to use it in situations where it's not recommended.

What owner's choose to decide is on them.

I'm not here to lecture...just to make a situational awareness of the technology explained in the owner's manual.

I do appreciate your humor...I must say, sincerely.
