I have a 16 TRD sport with 191k and I like the tighter suspension that the sport gives (minimal offroading - 2 times a year maybe).

I'm thinking I might need new struts in the next little bit, so I started watching local places for new take-offs... these are off a 2022 limited:

Question is, how do these limited ones compare to the sport model. I have read that the off road model is a softer ride than the sport, but what about limited models? Will any struts and shocks off of a newer tacoma fit the 2016? I read something about the top hat being different.

Sorry, I'm new to suspension things (but old to working on cars :D)

    These are a downgrade.

They are simply tuned more for “on pavement” handling and comfort.
Technically, according to the “experts” on Tacoma World, they will ride similar to the blue Hitachi struts your Sport.

I took these off. They are bouncy, truck used to bounce after hitting expansion joints on the freeway.

I have not seen any discussion on the Limited suspension, but I suspect that they would fit between the firm ride of the Sport and the soft ride of the Off-Road. The Limited will be set up to be a bit smoother than the harsh firm ride of the Sport because it is more aimed as a luxury version of truck.

I will affirm that they do ride soft. I can’t imagine an OR being softer (like everyone says).

Bilsteins probably have a better valving. These not so much. Remember them do a nose dive under light to moderate braking.

4600's will give stock height and better ride quality.

The Bilstein is a really good shock I’ve never heard anyone regret buying them. Every set I’ve had made a dramatic difference in control and ride.
Keep in mind the 4600 and 5100 series have the same valving. The difference is the 5100 series are made for a suspension lift.

I had a 2005 Sport with the stock Bilstein shocks. I traded it in on a 17 Limited. After unexpected/unaccustomed body roll on a Highway off-ramp, I put on Bilstein 5100 set at factory height, with less than 6 months & 5K miles. It matched the ride I was accustomed to with the old Sport, couldn’t be happier.

it was explained here way back then that the SR, SR5 and Limited all had the same suspension which is a downgrade drone both the 16+ Sport & OR.

5100 up front (set on second notch to level it up) & 4600 for the rear.
