Wait they have new assholes? I must hear about this

Anything rebuildable can be custom valved, esp when you go with @AccuTune Offroad

Dumb question here... How long should shocks normally last?

No real answer to that question, depends on usage. Someone who only drives on the road may get 100,000 miles vs someone that does high speed desert driving every weekend may only get 20,000 (or less) before having to rebuild.

I'm pretty sure mine are original at 130k... It's going to be fun talking to the wife.. Honey, the guys on Tacoma world say I really need new shocks... No big deal though, it's only about $2k...

The guy who was trying to save the company when they ousted the original asshole got royally fucked over.

It seems like my best bet, if I don't go with Bilstein again is to get a custom valved set of the new aluminum body foxes from Accutune.

I'm a little biased to Bilstein just because of my experience with them so far, and the fact that I definitely can't afford to do both front and rear this year. So, I prefer to stick with something digressive valved.

$2K isn't going to get you a proper set of 2.5" reservoir shocks. ;)

Kidding, of course. For the best bang for your buck, I'd look for something that doesn't require rebuilds, like the eibach pro setup, Bilstein, or entry level Dobinsons. The Dobs will probably be the most popular option here.

My Bilsteins are at ~65K miles of assorted abuse. Mostly highway and city, but plenty of off-road use. I don't do a lot of high speed off-road stuff, though. They still seem good.

According to their website they are:

"BILSTEIN B8 8100 reservoir shock absorbers are a direct fit solution for lifted trucks and SUVs. Constructed from aerospace quality billet components, the large 60mm ID shock body, paired with a unique remote or piggyback reservoir, offers a higher oil volume capacity to control heat while tackling rough road surfaces over long distances. Whether rugged trails or asphalt roads, the 8100’s monotube design and 60mm piston with digressive valving offers consistent comfort and control so you can tame the terrain in style."

That's weird! Everything I came across kept talking about how they are "position sensitive" and different from the cheaper Billys. I stand corrected lol

That might have been referring to the fact that they are bypass shocks? :notsure:

I'll be the first to admit that I am definitely not the most knowledgeable guy around here when it comes to shocks. I had to look it up.

Position sensitive is an internal or external bypass term.

Can’t wait to get roasted for what I’m going to say next…

Anyone considering that Accu company: they do good work, but be aware they are now buddy buddy with that trashy Beast company who defaced rocks in Utah. My future business will go elsewhere because of that. I’d suggest finding a vendor for the Fox’s who doesn’t knowingly take in bedfellows like this.

Butthurt reaction and possible ban coming in 3, 2, 1…

Thats correct. Thats the beauty of a bypass shock, you can tune the different zones. Zones would be the ride zone, top out and bottom out zone. If you feel like going down a rabbit hole of learning today, our 5-part series on Bypasses is a dusy: https://accutuneoffroad.com/byass-shocks-part-i/

(The following statement is said with literally no snark or attitude, I promise lol) That's the beautiful thing about living in a free country and being allowed to have your own opinion and support or boycott whichever people and companies you want. Personally, I believe the Tacomabeast thing was blown ENTIRELY out of proportion. From the visceral reaction I saw from everyone on here I expected to see Nazi symbols and dynamite involved. Was it dumb? Without question. Scorched Earth worthy? I'm not so sure. Also I guess if we're talking the Accu fellers, I'm not really a fan of them after reading their replies in many different posts over the years. Very unfriendly tone more often than not and they refuse to acknowledge the existence of any suspension that costs less than $3,000 dollars. I totally understand paying a lot for a quality product but if you tell them you're thinking about 6112s and 5160s they look down at you through their monocle and scoff at such a disposable suspension.

    $3,645.45. :spending:

I'd have to see an incredible improvement to shell out that much for a truck I take on mild off-road trips 4 times a year.
