If I end up running 29x2.6 tires, would they be too narrow for 35mm rims? I tried some interweb searching and am coming back with mixed results. I'm going with Specialized Butcher 29x2.6 tires and currently eyeing a set of Ibis Sends that are 35 mm wide. Wondering if it's a bad idea to venture wider than 30 mm for a 2.6 tire.

    Yeah.
I personally think 35mm would be fine, but 2.6" is the narrowest I would go.

Where is the best place to buy 27.5 mountain bike tires? I am looking to go tubeless. I really like what I have on right now but I am tired of changing tubes out. I am running WTB vigilante 2.3 on the front and WTB ranger 2.25 on the rear.
    Thanks in advance!

the ground controls just mentioned would be a good place to start if you dont mind specialized.

as far as the best place, a local bike shop would be my recommendation.

for online stuff i order from jenson, worldwidecyclery, and lost co

I just bought some from Specialized direct. I've purchased from Schwalbe direct also but they didn't have the size I needed this time.

I’ve got one DHF left for sale. Had several more but have sold off the others.

As others have mentioned, Spesh direct is a good start. Honestly the tires from Spesh and Bontrager are friggin sleepers in my opinion. And reasonable prices even at MSRP.

    Yeah.
I haven't found a tire I like better than the Bontrager XR4/SE4. I had a Purgatory/Ground Control combo on a Specialized I owned for a bit and they were good as well.

    Exactly.

My personal preference of late is an XR4 up front for daily driver/light-ish duty, or a Butcher for steeper more aggressive terrain. Out back I run a Ground Control for daily/light-ish duty, and an Eliminator for when I want more traction and less concern for rolling speed.

So many good tires to chose from out there. But at the prices that Spesh/Bonti can be had, it’s tough to look elsewhere.

I’ve run 2.6 Rekon/Ikon/Forekaster in various combinations on 35mm inner WTB rims on a hardtail for about 4 yrs now. Everything from XC race set up as SS to backcountry bikepacking with gears. Works great. Maybe not the lightest option for XC racing but never bothered me.

Question: Lets say hypothetically I enduro my rigid fat bike quite a bit, and I hypothetically put a few dents in the rim. If the tires are holding air (running tubeless) and there is no leakage, is it worth trying to straighten them out or pretend there is nothing wrong? I have a lot of orange seal in there and there were a couple trail side repairs consistent with leaning the bike and spinning the tires to get sealant into the trouble areas, and after a couple pump ups, everything sealed up (can't be running fat tires in New England tech at low pressures apparently).

The stock ground control tires are not my favorite and I want to replace with something having a bit more tread. While the ground controls (26x4.6) have a decent tread pattern, they tend to slip and slide around on rock rolls and damp roots. Replacing the tires means breaking the seal and potential future leakage.

In a perfect world, I want to get a new set of upgraded rims and put on a suspension fork (the stock aluminum Fatboy Stout wheels are a bit burly) - however I am trying to not replace things for the sake of replacing them only. Someone I ride with is building up a hard tail and I'm going to be fighting the major urge to do the same.....told myself I wouldn't do any large bike purchases this year after getting 3 new bikes last year. If I can put on a suspension fork and put some nicer tires on the bike, I more or less have a capable hard tail for minimal investment.

Edit: picture of the tank in its natural environment:

Remember, you got me into this to begin with! You should block me on this thread, it’s going to be a lot of build pics and dumb questions.
