For a gas stove you want all of the cooking area of the stove covered. The CFM of the hood will dictate the size of the venting. I don't know if there is a code requirement, but the more CFM's the better. Two reasons, first when you're cooking Thanksgiving dinner and have all 6 burners going you'll be glad for the bigger hood. Second, for day to day cooking you can run at a lower, quieter speed and still have good performance. Another thing to consider is make air up to replace what is being blown out the hood. I notice a big difference when I open a window while running the vent hood. If you want to be fancy you could install a heat exchanger so you don't just blow all of your conditioned air out the hood.

Asking specifically about the ducting and single vs double wall as OD is different.

All other decisions have been made. And I personally disagree with high cfm hoods. I had a fancy 600 for 13 years in the old house and never used the high setting. Never seen anyone else running theirs at max. So I feel I’ve leaned my lesson and 300 is perfect. But that’s all personal preference. Optimize for the common case.

I'm designing a deck for my house, which is two story. Underneath said deck there is a walkout basement entrance. Dimension of deck is 22' W x 18' L and height from ground level (walkout area) to main house back door is ~9'6" (maybe an inch or so difference depending on where ledger board lands.

I've been doing research, i.e. - book/youtube/website design tool. However I wanted some feedback on what I have come up with, to make sure I'm understanding the tables I've reviewed (using Souther Pine, Treated):
I'm planning on deck joist spacing: 12" on center. Joist length = 17'9" (remove thickness of ledger and rim joist)
    >> With above, I can have my joist span (ledger to beam) be maximum of 16'2" and max cantilever of 3'1". Correct?
    >>> If so, I'm planning on cantilever being 3'. resulting in joist span being = 14'3" (remove 3' cantilever and width of 6"x6" post).

    >> Deck post spacing = 7' on center due to joist span being <16'. Beam will have cantilever <than 1/4 beam span on both sides.
    >> Beam is two 2"x12" combined (construction adhesive and nails)

I've built smaller decks in the past, extended/refurbish existing decks, so this would be a first of this size haha. I appreciate the feedback!

I have a 1 car garage door that I want to raise it a little. If I could get 6", I would be stoked.

It has a 4x12 header. I'm trying to figure out my options for raising or replacing the beam. If I did replace this with a steel beam, is there a standard equivalent steel beam size that is used in place of a 4x12?

duct size is dictated by range hood cfm , required range hood cfm should be should be shown in stove specs as well as recommended height above stove surface

Size is 6”. That is known. I’m interested in rules and best practices regarding b vent vs single wall.

I suppose I should have been more precise with my initial question.

Everything is known except this one specific question. Vent height is set, brackets are mounted, hood is purchased, all done. No questions there.

I use the high setting all the time, especially when I am cooking steak in my cast iron skillets, fried chicken, etc. :notsure:

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Best I can do considering local code takes precedence.

    This is some good s.

That definitely will add some complexity for me since I have my water heater and furnace vents in the same wall. I suspect 3’ is as much as I can get between these 3 vents. Furnace is already at the top of the ceiling. Might be able to drop it down some but not 3’.

Still hunting for code or recommendations on single vs double wall though. I can see how double wall matters for a gas water heater.

I do see that B vent pipe requires a 1” clearance for all combustibles and I think that spells out why it isn’t appropriate for use through an interior wall and toward an exterior wall. Definitely would be easier to just vent directly outside but that ship has sailed.

ETA: Found this, leaning single wall. Thinking air temp is more similar to a dryer than a conventional tank gas water heater.

range hood venting doesn't need clearance to combustibles like a gas fired appliance vent or chimney

Single wall. Air temp is never going to be high enough for double wall to be required.

Like you say now, all the decisions are made. My hood over a 4 burner gas stove is 270 CFM and it runs on high pretty much all the time. If I had a do-over I'd get as big a CFM as I could afford so it could run on a more quite medium setting. Kind of like the difference between running the snot out of a 4 banger vs just loping along in a V8. As it is my 4 banger is noisy AF on high.

I installed one like that 2 jobs back but by code here in BC , anything over 400cfm requires a heated make up air system

By code here it's about the same but you can duct the makeup air into the return duct of the system serving the zone with hood. The automatic makeup air damper is on a pressure switch in the exhaust duct.

    looks good!
Are those 2x8 joists or 2x10? Im wanting to build a covered 16'×16' deck but i might be over kill if i use 2x10 stringers then 2x6 joist, then the 5/4 decking? Looks like you only have one layer
