Hmmm, starting to look like the June trip might be a little bigger than I anticipated. Might have to do Bearpaw after all. :notsure:

Agreed on the idea of Bear Paw or at least around the general Mountain area. We can get creative despite the fun section of the pipeline temporarily closed.

I'm cool with shittin' in the woods. Kimm'r...not so much. She needs a reasonably propper pooper.

I was looking at the map for fun to see what other places exist around those parts. Looks like Boulder Lake Campground has group sites which solved the shitter conundrum. 6 vehicles per site but it looks pretty nice and currently available that weekend. Just throwing it out there, I'll share if I find any other alternates.

    https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233777

Edit: After further inspection, some sites allow up to 10 vehicles.

Alright. I think I'll save the primitive thing for another time, or a personal trip, as the group is getting too big for the places I was thinking about.

That's where we used to go. It's a really nice park, with great facilities. There's a nice couple who deliver firewood and pretty much anything you want, as we learned a few years ago. It's really one of the nicest parks I've stayed at.

The only downside is that it's almost an hour from the trails. I was thinking about checking out other parks closer to the Pipeline area.

Funny enough that's where I originally met some of these yahoos in 2019, including @Thatbassguy. We've decided in favor of Bear Paw over Boulder Lake in the past two years due to its convenience of being closer to the pipeline, but that may be a candidate now, once again.

Edit: Whelp, James beat me to the explanation...great minds, as they say.

Ahh OK my bad I think someone told me that but I already forgot. I edited my other post, some sites say up to 10 vehicles. You probably already know. Either way I'm happy to pitch in for reservations, just say the word.

Not sure how much I'll be online the next week, have a tag for turkey hunting and hope to be in the woods for a couple days.

    Haha, yes!

We had 3 excellent trips there. I'm not opposed to camping there again, especially if I get to see the firewood girl again. :anonymous: I know she's married, but a guy can dream.

    Thanks!

Forgot that Bagley Rapids campground might be an option...just maybe not this year. Last fall they had a sign saying it might open to online reservations soon. I looked online today and I don't think their reservations are up yet. Only individual sites but they are pretty good size sites. If we could reserve on a future trip that could satisfy the outhouse requirement and it's much closer to Mountain & the trails. Plus it's right next to a big rapids/falls.

That's definitely a good one to stay at if you prefer some noise. I stayed there in 2019 for a night. The sound of the rapids was a bit much for me, but a cool spot nonetheless.

Like these? IIRC, there were approx. 45 birds in this field (about 15 are out of frame to the right). Too bad it's in city limits...they seem to know it.

Yep, send the ones with beards down south a bit. We have warmer temps and no snow on the ground, they'll love it. And yes they definitely know the safe places to stay at!

Yeah, as soon as I heard it on the news, I knew it was just north of where we crossed into Iowa. Since the fiasco in Palestine, OH, the railroads have been watched like a hawk. In reality, all of the recent derailments aren't too unusual. They haven't had a great record for several years.

So it appears the added scrutiny hasn’t had much of an effect.
