Shop Time w/T.W. Friends

Well it appears that the sun continues to shine on that well storied dogs @$$ now and then...

First of all - the nerve of people:
1) put something on the side of the road with a "free" sign
2) include a note saying "needs starter" (and it did, it was missing) & leaks oil when running
3) took the starter bolts too!
( )

So I invested some $$ on AMZ and got a starter - then found out about the missing bolts...

Fortunately I have a *cough* few clunkers in the archives and found some bolts kind of similar on a machine about 15 years older.

I was afraid the newer machine might have that funny thread, folks call it met-ric I think. Fortuitous the holes were good ol' old man thread, 5/16 - 18.

This thing is a greasy mess.



One bolt was just about behind the starter gear with no straight shot, so a ten minute job took a 1/2 hour and I have (again) a pile of tools on the floor.

Put the alleged bad battery in and....
...Vroom! The Briggs 23 HP Intek thrummed to life!

This guy has some hours: 751.



The hydrostat seems to move ok but is kind of herky-jerky, I'm betting an oil change will fix that.

The deck engages smoothly, quite quiet too. I mowed a bit of the dooryard - all that oil started smoking so I parked it.

Pressure washer time.

 

New safety test fit, adjusted, painted, vinyl wrapped and installed.


MISSED a turkey this morning after an epic game of cat and mouse.

Had some tornadoes blow through, lots of rain thus far but so far we are unscathed.

That lunar lander that crashed into the moon yesterday? Hakuto R mission from Ispace was attempting to become the first private mission to land on the moon. I was one of the last people to see it before the fairings went around it. We supported their fueling op. Bummer but it's part of it. How it looked for me-

Today is the birthday of director/actor Richard C. Sarafian (1930-2013), a name you probably don't recognize unless you are a relentless credit reader & student of the obscure.

I bring it up here to put in a plug for my favorite movie of all time, Vanishing Point (1971).
If you seek it out watch the longer UK version with Charlotte Rampling.





Don't waste your time with the crappy 1997 remake.

back in 90s took me forever to find a copy of the video for sale.

i think i have a bigger model but the box is trashed from all my moving over the years.

 

For years it was available from Magnetic Video Corp -- 1 VHS tape for about $65 !
Naturally that was way out of reach for me.

In the early 90's I found a new VHS release in a Ames department store dump bin for $5.99.
I have it on DVD now.

 

Its really underated movie. That poor car though

 

They had 5 of them, 4 with the 440 engine and 4 speed, 1 with a 383 automatic.

Carey Loftin, a legend in his industry, was the stunt coordinator.
Among his many credits are also Duel (1971), Steven Spielbergs first major film credit and Bullitt (1968) Starring "king of cool" Steve McQueen.
