I kid of course, he's a good dude.

Ridge Grapplers aren't a true mud tire, more of a "hybrid" tire - cross between an A/T and M/T. Better on road and wet manners usually. Yokohama, Toyo, Nitto, BFG all have good mud tires, but probably more common in 12.5 wide.

If I were to get a mud tire, I'd probably go with Yokohama Geolander M/T G003. They're lighter than the competition while also being more true to size.

If they are kinda halfway between an A/T and M/T, should they be “Ridge Straddlers”?

Hello viewers. Allow me to intercede

    :101010:

    Yee haw these are solid

Plenty of non Nitto options that won't put your truck sideways in a ditch just because you drove over some wet grass clippings

    I might..... :laser:

I always recommend Falken Wildpeaks. Always :D

I've also mentioned Firestone Destination ATs and MTs as a good alternate budget tire.

Yoko's have been surpassing expectations lately too.

Agreed. Except for Ridge Grapplers having wet manners. They don't.

    At all

That being said, dry trails are the Ridge Grapplers friend, and they index incredibly well over rocks and logs etc. Sidewalls are always impressive in the grip department.

I've generally heard good things about the Ridge Grapplers. No personal experience, though.

To keep it in perspective, for every 10 people that like KO2's, there's 1 person who thinks they're junk. I don't know if this has something to do with specific setups, different environments, different load ranges, or what. :notsure:

@pearing do you have like a list of tire options started yet? If not, make one and post it up for opinions.

Maybe it's already been said but check out the Falken Wildpeak R/T 01, they are relatively new but they look like Patagonias but they probably aren't junk like Patagonias lol.

Those aren't 3PMS rated, just an FYI. not a dealbreaker, just something to keep in mind

I loved my Wildpeaks, they had great traction for my style of off-roading, but they were shot at 30k miles. Luckily Discount Tire was most excellent with the prorated warranty.

Here is what I have looked at in the preferred size of 35x11.5r17:

Nitto M/T Trail Grappler E rated

Falkon Wildpeak R/T C rated I prefer a more aggressive tire...

Maxxis Razor AT E rated See above

Then we have my two choices in 35x10.5r17

Interco Super Swamper SSR No, just nopity nope. Last pair of their tires didn't even last 20k

    Kenda Klever C I think

In a 35x12.5r17 the whole world is available and it is a toss up between:

    Maxxis Buckshot MT E rated

BFG KM3 E rated This is my go to tire because they last and I know what I am getting. Suck in the snow great on the trail...

I wish I could see the truck with my rims specs and tires to see how much it will poke... I really don't like the trend of the tire way out, thus wanting the narrower tire. Think I might just buy one tire, mount it up and see... The rims are 9" wide, so I am worried about the 10.5's being too narrow. Advice from the hive mind?

The rim range on the Kenda 35×10.5×17 is up to 9.5", so you're in spec there.

It's a maximum difference of 1" poke, so I don't think going from 10.5 to 12.5 will make it look like a bro-dozer. You could look in rim and tire sub-forum or just Google image search the size and offset you're looking at on 2nd gen tacos.

https://www.fitmentindustries.com/ is actually a pretty useful site for seeing different wheel/tire fitments, despite the brodozers.

This doesn't apply to trucks, apparently. Here are the choices I get for 2019:

Count me as two people that hate Ridge Grapplers because both of my trucks have them and they suck on both trucks. Different sizes too. One is a manual and one is an auto so really getting the whole range here of experience, and that's just where I'm coming from. Obviously this is the internet so take everything with a grain of salt and two pats on the back :D

Just curious, what tire pressuren do you run on the road? Have you tried lowering it? Maybe it's too high. Or maybe the tires just really do suck. I have no experience with those nor do I personally know anyone with them.

Got it thanks. Couple more questions:
    • Should we assume you are ignoring 35 inch equivalent LT metric sizes like 315/70/17?
    • Do you prefer C load or E load? Limited choice here anyways, just trying to understand your preference. Assuming E load since you tow.
    • And I’m assuming you want 11.5 width because 10.5 is too skinny for the rim and 12.5 gives the bro poke and gets too close to the UCAs?
    • 3 peak snowflake rating - does this even matter?
General Grabber X3 is another option is you go with 12.5 width. Not a lot of selection in 11.5.
