Pro forma at this point but there’s plenty enough for locals as well as “concerned citizens” to point at and say “fix this or don’t fly”. So don’t expect a rapid resolution. It wouldn’t surprise me to see all of the repairs and upgrades in place with more time afterwards for a review process. I think we’ll be lucky to see ground testing resume in 3-4 months and another launch in 6. We will get to watch all of the upgrades and repairs taking place along with article and ship testing at Massey’s but there’s only so much they can do there and any SH testing will shut down other work at the launch site.

It would be amazing if they can clear all and return to flight in 6 months.

Be nice to see it happen but they have yet to show they can meet their commitment to supplying BE-4’s for Vulcan which has 1st priority on engines. Then they need to build a rocket for those engines. Only way I see it happening is ULA is too slow building Vulcans to use that nonexistent surplus of engines and BO/New Glenn suddenly becomes a hardware rich facility and can claim the 7/ship they’ll need. ULA likely will be slow but it’s very doubtful BO will be able to take advantage of that within 18 months. It’s not as if the people qualified to make them grow on trees but that’s exactly what Spacex has done by going all in on “hardware rich”, they’ve actually been training the work force that can do this. BO has nozzles but only a few who know how to assemble the rest that makes them engines. It’s probably inevitable that for a variety of reasons some technicians will choose to switch companies but though skilled they won’t initially be knowledgeable about the BE-4 and it’s assembly process. Any other recruits will be even more lacking in experience. Hardware rich allows you to become personnel rich.

At the time it was a dream come true. Yeah there were issues but it got a lot done over those decades. Don’t think we’re immune to disaster then, now, or ever.

Had never thought about it until looking at the aft end image of the orbiter but the OMS engines had to be gimbalable as well. Talk about a "duh" moment!

John Young is on record saying the Shuttle never got beyond the experimental stage.
