    Hi TW!

I've had this truck for 4 years now and it's never been off road! The most dirt it's seen is the Barona Dirt Track parking lot .

After test driving a '08 Camry yesterday I've realized something important. My taco is F'in AWESOME and can do more then carry surfboards and bikes.

    So...

Where's a good place to get my feet wet and my tires dirty?

As close to a 4x4 as possible in case you get stuck.

Skip the trails around here and go out to Ocotillo Wells to find out what you like and don't like to do.

    I kid lol.

There are a lot of sick Prerunners out there and with a locking rear dif they can be very capable.

Welcome to TW. Otay Truck Trail is a nice place to go if you just want to drive in the dirt and its close to town. There is a good group of us here in SD just keep your eyes open for trail runs people will usually post up when they are going.

Lol, thanks for the warm welcome. It's true though, this is my first 2x4 with locker. I've had a K-5 Blazer and 2nd Gen Blazer, both 4x4s. Pulled a few vehicles out of bad spots. So, I'm not really sure of the tacos capabilities. It seems very capable but I won't really know till I try!

Thanks for the advice! I read some info on the CA Gov site. Looks fun and like there's a ton of stuff to see.

Also says camping is free, have you ever spent some time there?

No fees are collected for camping or day use. Open camping is permitted throughout the unit for up to 30 days per calendar year.

Thanks Adam! Is there a specific thread for Otay Truck Trail events or should I keep an eye out for new ones?

Was there last weekend and also last March ('10) with my '10... See trip reports with photos.

Get an air pump and good gauge, because you can go most anywhere out there and if you do get slowed down by sand... just let the air out of the tires... 15 psi... and if you get stuck, go to 10 psi.

I have spent the night there and I didn't pay and their was no signs. I stayed close to the ranger station (5 minute walk away). It was noisy (from buggies all night long), but I didn't really notice.:D

The only cheap compressor I would go with is an MV-50 (can get at any ORW). Or go with a Viair and I have heard good things about the ARBs also.

And always go with a buddy or 2, its more fun and if you get stuck they can pull you out.

Let me add that I dont have a locker and was able to play with the 4x4's on the obstacles... These trucks are verry capable.

I have one from Harbor Freight since 2006 ($49 on sale then) ... works good and pumps 6 psi per minute.. The Cig. lighter ones pump only 2 psi per minute, so always go with one that clips to the battery.

Hi David, thanks for the info, I took a look through your recent trip photos, Ocotillo Wells looks like a lot of fun! Going to find myself a good air compressor (got a few digital gauges), I see some recommendations in the comments below.

Good deal, I'm assuming there's facilities by the ranger station? The lady friend would appreciate this, especially if she's going to listen to buggies all night!

I found one on Amazon for about $60. Looks like a good compressor. I'll shop around a bit more.
