Essential Mods Prior to First Offroad

    I made mine but there are tons of solid reputable brands that make sliders. There are also lots of fabricators that can help you make some or make you a pair. They aren’t the cheapest mod but I’ve never met anyone that regretted getting them. You can do bolt on or weld on sliders. Bolt on are more difficult to install because they typically require drilling bolt holes but if you ever plan on possibly selling the truck in the future the bolt on sliders are the way to go.

    I did ceramic coating on my truck. It definitely helps but it’s not a cure for pinstripes. Wrap is the answer if you don’t wanna spend 8 hours cut polishing and ceramic coating your truck every few years.:) My neighbours think I’m freaking nuts…

    Your truck is white so it’s one of the best colours for wheeling. You will not notice pinstriping on your truck at all.

    Sliders: local tw fabricator, I’m one of them.
    Bumpers: warfab
    Skids: bamf or diy.
    Wheels: anything that provides a benefit over a look. So beadgrip or beadlock.
    Camping: ground tent from walmart, sleeping bag and some snacks a cooler packed with beverages.
    Suspension: 2” lift and a reinforced rear pack.
    Tires: 33’s or 31.5 do the trick.

    Sick. Did you go with steel or aluminum? Like the durability and cheapness of steal, but live at the beach, so a little worried about corrosion

    Steel all day. Cheaper and stronger. If you do the bolt on sliders you can always take them off and do an easy paint touch up. You can touch up paint with weld on sliders too but you’ll have to be careful not to paint the truck too haha

    Slider’s definitely steel. Bumpers and skids, you can get away with aluminum, if you wanna keep your build light.

    And double this. The only thing I’ll consider made out Al would be the front bumper. And fuck powder coating on anything that is meant to take impacts(sliders, skids, rear bumper)

    Start with quality camping gear if you don't already have some. You don't need to do anything to the truck to go out and explore and camp. I started out with upgrading my wheels and tires only because I popped them while on the trail and it was an excuse to buy a new setup. Definitely was not needed as it was patched and still usable. Next came lights because my group planned to do night trails while camping. Next purchase for me is a roof rack so I can haul camping gear and my kayaks. Buy gear if you know you're going to use it, otherwise its a waste of time and money.

    The powder coating is great if you don’t mind the extra cost. It’s definitely more of a durable coating if you don’t plan on using the sliders a lot. If you are scraping them on rocks more then a few times a year I’d do rattle can. They have a rattle can bedliner that is okay. But I went with the rattle can just because I could do touch ups whenever I wanted. Some people do paint touch ups after every trip to make sure they can see if anything got hit on the trip.

    you probably shouldn't leave pavement unless you get all those mods. never know whats gonna happen. in case you need a list

    you need:
    lift (full suspension replacement)
    bigger tires
    wheels to go with tires
    sliders
    skids
    all under body armor
    high clearance front bumper
    high clearance rear bumper
    light bar in front bumper
    winch in front bumper
    pod lights for rear bumper
    ditch lights
    roof rack
    pod lights for roof rack
    light bar for roof rack
    switch pro for all the lights
    bigger battery for all your lights
    air compressor
    regear
    tune for regear
    maxtraxx
    high jack lift thing
    overland axe
    overland shovel
    pressurized water
    a way to heat the pressurized water (no one wants to take a cold shower)
    be sure to keep all the stickers from all this stuff to cover every exposed solid color surface
    trasharoo


    this is where it gets tricky and really up to you:
    a bed rack compatible with a tonneau cover with a rtt on top.
    a camper shell with a rtt on top
    a gfc/super pacific/alucab camper/4wheel camper
    or get rid of the bed and get a ute/bed replacement
    a matter's replacement for any of these. an exped or hest is kind of your only option right now.
    an awning to go with any of these setups is a must

    to be safe you should also get:
    a skottle
    a 5lb propane tank
    a camping stove with an oven attachment
    a 10lb propane tank for when your 5lb runs out
    gsi cookware. another brand is acceptable. includes pots pans plates bowls cups silverware
    a super expensive table
    really nice camping chairs
    propane fire pit (mainly because burn bans)
    a chainsaw (a sawzall may be acceptable depending on where you live)
    might as well get a whole truck wrap
    big external battery
    solar panels to charge the battery

    or just try heading out and figure out what you want or need. you mention sliders and that could be very beneficial for protection, if you think you're going to try going on those tougher roads. find a group to go with. learn your local recovery company/group
