Sweet, yeah I’d want a way to touch em up periodically. Keep ‘em free of any rust or whatever

Since the early 80s I've owned around a dozen new Toyota trucks, all 4x4. All trucks, without exception, have been off road with fewer than 100 miles on the odometer (most <50 miles).

Your truck out of the showroom is extremely capable.

Overlanding is new and trendy, no need to fall down that rabbit hole.

Like others have said, your stock truck is very capable, however I like your rationale of sliders and skids. OP, you mentioned you are on the beach, so my piece of advice might not apply to you, but if you are venturing to higher elevations or colder climates (I camp in the Colorado mountains), get yourself a good quality sleeping bag. At a minimum, my bags are 0 degree bags. I have one -20 bag. Being cold sucks and will ruin your trip.

Oh yeah, good advice for sure. Got a 0 degree bag and that thing rocks. Thanks

Skids ... look in the Armor sub-forum. I agree that engine skid is first priority since that will hit most often unless you rock crawl. I run RCI engine and transmission but this is just an FYI for now not a recommendation.

VIAR 88P compressor. Not the most powerful, but works. Keep a couple of extra 20A auto fuses for the power-cord inline because the fuses can blow.

    Beer (AFTER you arrive).

Oh and do a sweep of B/T/S forums, Craigslist, facebook marketplace and offer up. Some people start selling their fancy stuff for a penny once they see all that crap was not needed.

Wait, avoid what now? But those are free overland mods. Dont wash it and then the most recent snuggle session with the under brush will look even more dramatic when parked at the grocery store.

After the first full length stripe from a stick bouncing down the truck (so the stripe looks like a sine wave) you'll get over the impulse to avoid them. On a related note I found debadging and destickering make buffing out light stripes easier.

Ditto on the stock truck will take you most places. My only warning is if you have the predator steps… I didn’t realize how low they were and landed/dragged them across some boulders in the first week.

that’s more a dumb driver not knowing his clearance but ehhh everything else I’ve been able to handle with smart driving and a good spotter. (And sometimes a shovel to help clearance spots)

Yeah. I’m looking to rip em off as soon as I can. Seen videos of em getting absolutely destroyed on some trails

I’ve got their steel skids and sliders. Picked them up for 20% off during a sale. I believe they have a sale going on right now, but skids only.

Predator steps are definitely not off-road friendly.
