Amazing the number of people who accept body panel gaps for the sake of reliability but beeatch about having to change volume left/right instead of up/down.

Are ya sure it’s patented?? My 2013 Subaru WRX has it and it’s definitely not a Ford.

You are wrong, you turn the knob left to decrease volume, right to increase.

Selecting channel numbers go up and down.

I don't buy Fords due to this ass backwards way of thinking.

I inadvertently activate the cruise control and then wonder why there's no deceleration when I let off the throttle. I prefer no buttons on the wheel. I don't think it's a possibility on F-series anylonger, or anything from any manufacturer.

Now this is what you need on your steering wheel. The heck with those buttons.

Nobody, in the history of human habitation of Planet Earth, has ever yelled “I love this song!!!! Turn the volume right!!!!”

    -we turn up the volume
    -we turn down the volume
-we select the next track, like turning the next page of a book (right)
-we go back a track, like going to a previous page of a book (left)

    this is the only truth.

Toyota is either run by aliens or just out of their minds. I’m guessing run by aliens.

It’s childhood trauma for me. Back in 1988, when I used to blast Motley Crüe in my bedroom, my mom would yell from the kitchen “turn the goddam volume left!!!!” Then beat me with a spatula when I didn’t understand.

Knobs don't turn up or down, they turn left (counter clockwise) or right (clockwise).

Volume goes up by turning the control right.

Not my fault your brain forgets to tell the left hand what your right hand might do.

I think you should have to turn two knobs at once to do anything.

Who needs a full streeing wheel?

I still don't see how the steeting yoke would translate to a good driving experience in a road car. Try making a three point turn or parallel parking a Formula 1 car. How do you make a tight right hand turn on a city street with out going into the opossing lane of the street you are turning on with a steering yoke?

    Already do.

I can steer with my left hand AND adjust volume or station / track with my right hand at the same time.

The stereo knobs on that still turn left and right, not up and down.

Maybe not but that Subie will last about as long as the Ford. Waaaay more fun while it does last though...

In a Tesla, you don't, but the Lexus system is steer by wire. It varies the steering ratio based on vehicle speed so you never need to turn more than 150 degrees in either direction from TDC.

The Lexus system seems better, I still don't think it will work that well even with the varying steering ratios. I know any vehicle that will end up with the varying ratios, will also have a self parking feature.

For those who park themself, and any driver of a vehicle with steer by wire varying steering ratios, wouldn't a full steering wheel be an advantage over the yoke?

I can't see where the yoke is an improvement over the wheel. The full wheel provides more surface area to grip. In an oh shit! situation more surface area on the wheel will yield better results.

Ohh 100% agreed, that's a different set of issues though. Like how I don't like calling them yokes since real yokes have pitch authority. This branding stupidity is up there with Tesla calling a Targa the Tesla Roadster with how pedantic I am and how much it bothers me. lol

Why do you need a steering wheel when you never need to turn the wheel enough to go hand over hand?

The current iteration of the Lexus flat wheel has some latency issues that are a deal breaker for me. But the idea of drive by wire tech fundamentally doesn't bother me. I'm sure it'll get better over the next decade. Until then though, I'm still waiting for the Saab side stick to come back.

Lexus vehicles should also have a woodgrain sreering wheel.
