I can’t enjoy it neat, this is the first time on a rock and I def enjoy it more this way. Which is strange because there are plenty other BP selections I totally enjoy neat.

You just reminded me that I never re-upped my Unicorn Rub. It’s about that time of year to start firing up the smoker too. Got a link to that group buy thread?

    Happy fRYEday everyone!

I really liked the Woodinville Bourbon, so I’m giving their rye a try. So far it has been really good. The pepperiness is more pronounced than the Sazerac Rye that I tried earlier.

hey you guys mentioned Hibiki a few posts back.

Daughter & me had a bottle of the Hibiki Harmony last year. no not the $12,000 bottle... but it was the $1,100 version.
its such a beautiful bottle! kept the bottle to make a night light out of, but my wife threw a fit, so now it sits in the closet.

and again: the whiskey was only so-so. but that bottle was an instant collector piece!

Bourbon is a little on the sweet side for me. Now I do love a good old fashioned from time to time. But for sipping, I like me some good scotch whisky or some Powers John Lane single pot Irish whiskey.

Not too much peat in the scotch, though - a little goes a long way.

    THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

think this is the key to my whiskey "likes".

KY/TN whiskey IS sweet vs most others ive tried & Scotch to me just tastes burnt. thats why my whiskey liking field is so narrow!

excellent & simple point out on your end!

Scotch can be peated or unpeated. The peat variety has heavy smoke notes. I think your taste would trend toward the unpeated stuff (Springbank, Johnnie Walker Gold/18, GlenLivet, several Compass Box blends, Glenmorangie, etc).

Sounds like you're already aware that Irish and Japanese are going to give you a more muted sweetness.

Bourbons that have aged a long time (> 10 years) tend to have more oak and less sweetness. You might find those to be your preferred american whiskies.

Ventured out of PA this morning to grab a wedding gift for a friend and happened on this guy. Looking forward to trying it. I had a different store pick in Seattle a month or two ago and really enjoyed it.
