finally able to get consistant ripple welds with a cheap flux core welder
    [IMG]

roof rack all done. it's strong enough to hold me. even jumped a little and it didn't bend.

these notches were a pain in the ass to get right
    [IMG]

    moch up of said notches
    [IMG]

    notched section all welded up
    [IMG]

this is how it sat last nihgt when i ran out of wire

so far 4 beams is the most at one intersection
    [IMG]

how i left it last night so i could jump right back on it after i got more wire this morning
    [IMG]

and this is how it sits at this very moment.

so there she is. the basic skeleton is almost finished. this it's on to bracing the cage int he nessesary places. i'm going to suppurt the areas under the roof rack, brace the front and rear at the corners, where impact is likely off roading, and then most of the joints will be gusseted.

as far as the design goes, i'm thinking about offsetting the spare tire and jerry can to one side, to make room for a ladder going up the front to get to the roof. that'll make loading stuff onto the rack much easier.

i've also designed some litle kick outs that i'm going to weld to the trailer's frame in front of the tires. this will keep the fenders and tires from getting hooked on trees and anything else a wheel can't be pulled over.

the overall goal is that whatever the truck can go through, this can be drug through something a little tougher.

i'm kindof stuck right now though, as i've used almost 80 feet of steel, only have scraps left in the garage, and aparently i've run my local steel supplier dry of the size i'm using......got some more on order though. thank got steel isn't too expensive.

i don't know what's available for your year and configuration, but if it's an option, you could do a full suspension overhaul with top of the line stuff, and maybe even have enough money left over to redo the stereo (if you haven't already)

    thanks ryan

sides are probably gonna be a couple weeks since what's left, as far as steel-work, is going to require a lot of cutting odd angles and notches which take a ton of time.
except for the front section which required two notches and a couple angled cuts, up until now, it's all be straight through with the sawzall

Finally in Texas! We are about 8 hours from our destination maybe sooner. I have seen a lot of Tacos and a few with the BHLM. I got a few pics but they are all on my moms camera. I happened to snap a few pics of one at Cracker Barrel in Bama.

Ya, we hit some pretty nasty snow and ice on our way to West Virginia this week. A front wheel drive minivan+a bunch of florida boys+ice and snow covered roads= A sketchy drive lol

If I go with a MT I will for sure go with the KM2's. I just do a lot of highway driving on the weekends so I have to decide if a M/T is worth it over a A/T.

I will do some looking at the dynapro's

I'm no expert but I would try to keep the spare and everything centered on the trailer so it isn't heavier on one side then the other.

That's all subjective though, those tests don't meant shit to me. It's whoever the magazines main sponsor at the time is. I should have rephrased, as far as I'm concerned the KM2 is the best M/T out there.:D

They are starting to grow on me. But even the M/T's have a a/t tread pattern.

ladder up the middle with a jerry can and spare tire on each side :D

i'll have to look into it and see if the weight difference will be an issue.

It probably wouldn't make a big deal but with the trailer not having suspension you wouldn't want the weight shift to hinder your trucks capability.
