    At the power plant I retired from, we had a 6,000 hp electric motor that ran a natural gas compressor which fed a gas turbine connected to a generator to produce electricity. When we would get ready to start the electric motor we would have to call dispatch first so they could raise the taps (voltage) on the line. That motor pulled some crazy amps until it got to full speed. We would also have to call the gas company to raise line pressure because the compressor would bleed the line.
