Do you say it's not ready for water crossings cause of the skidplate, or are you worried about water getting in the intake? My Tacoma has pretty good clearance, but I do wonder about the tires flinging gunk and water up there sometimes, especially if I get MTs. There can be some deceptively deep bogholes out there. I came close to getting over the hood on my old truck but I never did have an issue.

When you've got to pick up the fam and extended fam and take them to the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert

    I'd rock that thing :anonymous:

I was just curious since it seems to be so rare on the UZ engines. Mine hasn't lost much oil either. Maybe it was a lower-mileage engine, idk.

It's not ready because I haven't cared for these items like I did on the LX. These items failed within the first year of water crossings.

    1) Fan Bracket Bearing
    2) Idler pulley bearings
    3) AC clutch bearing
    4) Still running the original alternator -- compared to a new one in the LX that had been treated with a clear acrylic.
    5) LX had extended diff breathers
    6) Emergency brake is non functional on Maroon
    7) Maroon appears to be running the original radiator.

As for water and the Taco, I'd think my alternator would be the first thing to go since it's so low

I'm not sure I'd wanna put a snorkel on my truck. Idk if I could being myself to cut into the fender like that. I just have to be careful and check every bog hole I haven't been through before.

The function is more about keeping the air intake out of the dust during summer. I've found filters stay cleaner with one than without.

    This!

So many people (specifically 3rd Genners) think they're meant for water when they're not.

They definitely use them for water down in Australia. They have more diesels down there though which really don't tolerate any water at all. I think our petrol engines can shrug off a little water.

    @Wulf

Once I get that brake kit from @Daddo I'll be making myself a skid plate for the Land Cruiser!

    20230429_195538.jpg

    I'll have way more capabilities!

    Welders, check.

    Bandsaw, check.

    Drill press, check.

    CNC plasma, check.

    Cold cut saw, check.

    Compressed air, check.

    What else am I missing?

I need a skid plate as well. I remember 22rethan used to make really nice ones for Tacomas; I'm not sure if he's still around or not.

Mine will be small fortunately as it'll be a transfercase skid out of 1/4" steel. Beefy as fuck :muscleflexing:

I'll be able to cut some 3/16" on the CNC, and bend it on the brake to form over the rear diff too for added protection.
