I just used tee nuts in the plywood deck and 1/4-20 SS bolts thru the factory hinges. Easy enough to get switched back to stock in 5-10 minutes with just a socket wrench.

Can’t make out the t-nuts in photos as I covered over them but hopefully enough to get the gist here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rear-seat-delete-decks.632134/page-28#post-27481476

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
Has anyone who removed only one side and also took out the rear cubby had success in separating this bracket? The dog is going to be relinquished to the 40% side so I'm trying to get him as much space as possible.

I did. Drilled out the rivet, threw in appropriate size bolt (button head) with Teflon washers.

Like the rest of you on here I wanted to try my hand at getting rid of the seats and put in a platform for both storage and for the pups. Here is my break down of it, the issues I ran into, and a breakdown of all my cost. TLDR: It took longer and cost (962.85$) more than I had hoped.

    · Rear molly panel: 354.60$ from Underland Offroad. Ordered Jan 30th showed up around end of Feb or early March.

    · Monster liner kit 173.40$ 2 gallons (way more than was needed)

    · Respirator 24.98$

    · Acetone 10.98$

    · Magnets 9.99$-Amazon

    · Car sound proofing tools 19.99$- Amazon

    · Pack of 4 latches 34.99$ -Amazon

    · Sound proofing materials 129.99$-Amazon Roadkill (also more than was needed)

    · Bolts 13.49$ M6 20mm to 40mm (for the molly panel)

    · ¾ 4x8 Birch plywood 81.68$

    · Kreg pocket Jig 320 39.97$

    · 1 ¼ pocket screws 100 pack 9.47$

    · ½ 4x8 R3 19.98$

    · Bolts M8-1.25 50mm- 80mm est 15.00$ (now on these there are 4 on the top for the molly and there are 4 on the bottom for the platform)

    · Corner plates and braces 21.84$

    · Bottom two bolts 7/16-20 2 ½ 2.50$ (this one I don’t understand but I was able to thread it in by hand and will find the correct bolt later.

    · Rough total 962.85$

Taking out the seats was straight forward, you just gotta unscrew things and pop things off. The only part of this I didn’t do was the upper part of the seat belt. I don’t know if I am going to take it out or just leave it but for right now it is just sitting in the clip kinda just hanging out. Everything came out pretty easily, and I didn’t run into any issues removing any bolts.

Building the platform for this I used the CAD files from another user who posted them on here and they were extremely helpful and a great point of reference. It is also strange how these trucks are set up with some minor changes between years. I also found it weird that the floor wasn’t flat but I guess that makes sense for it being a vehicle and not a house. When I started I wasn’t sure how I was going to anchor it (CAD did have information on this) I ended up doing the three bolts on each side for the back and for the front I have two bolts where the front of the seats were connected. I also liked having four doors more than three so that was another change I made. I did try to use foam to find the holes and drilling points but this ended up causing issues and I should have just measured and at some point I will have to go back and fill in the extra holes. The doors have the latches on them as well as a magnet in each corner to help it from rattling. Speaking of sound the air vent in the back is a lot louder than I was expecting. I currently have a piece of coated foam over it to help with the sound but it is still rather loud. I didn’t like the look of just the molly with the back showing so I put some foam board in and then ¼ coated piece of plywood with about half an inch of spacing between it and the molly. I haven’t attached anything to it yet and I am going to take some black fabric and magnets and use it to cover the window motor to make it look a little better.

Was it worth it to build it vs buy it? I can’t say because it took me much longer to build it and still almost cost me a grand. I could have done this cheaper if I had bought less than I had but it is what it is. A lot of the time on this was going back just to improve something I didn’t like or realized I made a mistake. I also left the platform out in a heated garage for a week to let the monster liner air out a little more before I put it in the truck. I’m going to keep it as it is for a bit and see how I like it and then make more improvements later. I am trying to find out if I want to add more sounds proofing to the back of the truck or just sell off the extra that I have. I am also most likely going to end up putting an L track in to have more options for tie down points but that’s to come later. 20230422_121107.jpg 20230422_121335.jpg 20230415_160356.jpg

Any issues with moisture build up when it comes to the foam? Am thinking of doing something similar and in my area during the winter will get frost build up behind the seat around the vents.

Oh man, I had not thought of the noise. The seats must have very good sound deadening humm... guess Ill have to get some sound material installed.

This is about exactly what I want to do. Did you add any sound deadening material? I will be adding loads to cut down on sound... I HATE road noise

What canopy do you have for the rear, over the back end of the truck?

You will need to find a way to deal with the two air vents in the back of the cab. You can close them by having the air recirculate while driving but it is more of the band aid method of dealing with it.

I second this. Pool noodles work well. I covered mine completely with carpet squares, with the edges just barely touching. Since the seats are not in there, that still lets enough air through to not have issues but is much quieter.
