Hey so I’ve tried searching for this so I apologize if it’s been asked before but I have a stock 2022 Trail Edition with factory bronze wheels but added 265/75/16 BFG’s from the dealer on day one. But I would like to hear if anyone has successfully added 285’s to the Trail Edition on stock wheels without a cab mount chop, modification or whatever. I’d like to upsize eventually.

Just curious to see since we have the factory 1”+ lift in the front etc. And I do know that others have put them on other Tacoma models but with our slight lift and offset of wheels, wonder if it would work.

    Thanks,

    D

If it helps, I just barely fit 285/75/16’s on my SR5 with a 2” lift. There was no rub at full lock but it was super close. Like less than half an inch of space. That was also with -10mm offset wheels.

So I doubt you could fit them with just a 1” lift unless you’re willing to do some cutting.

Thanks for the info! And I don’t want to be that close to rubbing either. Not worth it!

I don't see why it wouldn't work... or at least be close enough to just trim some plastics...

My reasoning... people have been putting 285/75/16s on stock PROs from 2017-2021 for a long time. Those PROs came with a 1" front lift over factory, LESS than the trail edition. More importantly, the wheel specs on your Trail are the same as the pro wheel which puts it in a good position.

    PS. Welcome to TW!

Since you have a small enough wheel and are thst concerned about rubbing why not go the skinny route? 285's are great snd all but they required extra work to fit. A narrower 255 will give you a 33 with alot less work and risk of rubbing.

All great info guys! Much appreciated! One of the first things I noticed on the Trail Edition when I first saw it, was that the wheels poked out a tad more which was awesome. I would just like to have a little wider or poked look to flush the tires up on side. I’ve even debated a small wheel spacer (don’t worry! Hub centric and quality!) to give that look.

    Thanks again all!

Trails have a +4 off set like my SEMA 4R Pro wheels. I run a 285 with a 2 inch lift, factory guards and no cutting. A good alignment and maybe it might work or add a 1/2 spacer.

he put what ive been trying to tell people for years (and continually get called a liar for lol) into a visual representation.

with the right wheel specs 285s fit with zero lift and zero modification. heres my personal truck. same setup with 2" wheel spacers required a large cab mount chop

Thanks, everyone for all the information! I do personally understand a lot of this information and appreciate you posting the videos.

I was simply asking any Trail Edition owners what their experience has been with fitting the 285s. Honestly at this time I’m going to stay with my 265/75/16’s, not entertain the idea of any wheel spacers just for the sake of flushing the tires to the wheel well and just enjoying my trail edition as it is. Thanks again!

What wheel size and offset? Rub any on full lock and pavement only?

OP you have the perfect wheel, size and off set for 285s. Don't fear it, it will fit.

Your truck must have some kind of lift other than the stock trail lift right?? Seems to sit quite a bit higher than mine...

So is it a one inch black in the rear? Removing the half inch?

    Like, so many.
    You could probably do 255s.
