Those of you guys who have had the reroute done for a while.. any issues with heat? any point in dealing with wrapping the pipe or installing heat shields? Thanks.

Just got this done. Looks like it'll clear the skid plate but it will be close. I'll find out later tonight or tomorrow.

Does anyone have a lead on a shop near Houston TX that’s done these? Willing to drive a couple hours if need be.

Just got my reroute done to prep for RCI skid plate install. AA Muffler in Englewood, CO has done this a million times, and highly recommends routing underneath the existing heat shield vs any other option. They did a really nice job and also did the tail pipe chop free of charge. Cost was $200 after tax.

Wanted to add my data point FWIW: Called my local dealer and asked about how this would impact the powertrain warranty. The service advisor asked a few heads around the department and they advised that rerouting the exhaust may not void the warranty entirely but the modification would definitely be a point of contention if you need warranty work performed. While you could successfully argue the mod shouldn't affect components upstream of the reroute, it's a headache I'll personally avoid. Just gotta be careful with that exposed downturn in the exhaust in the meantime.

Just wondering. How many Tacoma's do we all think fall into the category of needing to invoke any sort of warranty claim? I suspect it to be in the <5% range. If it were anything I "thought" I needed to worry about I would not have purchased the truck. It seems there's many posts talking about warranty claims and feel the amount of time spent on that topic isn't proportional to the real quantity of claims. Just a thought is all this is......Peace.

That's valid and in the end it comes down to personal risk assessment. To each their own.

This looks like one of the best options I’ve seen. Do you have to remove the heat shield and it’s mount to do this one?

I am considering getting the tuck method of re-routing and plan to get the RCI armor at some point in the future. I have a question though; Why doesn't anyone install a flange on the driver's side pipe exiting the CAT (similar to the passenger side)? It seem it would make it so much easier to remove the cross-over pipe if the transfer case needed to be removed for any reason.

Also, does anyone know of a shop in the San Diego area that has done this before? I asked a shop today and the guy was not 100% sure what I was talking about, he thought I just wanted to chop off the exhaust pipe tip at the down turn near the spare.

I finally arranged to get my exhaust reroute sorted so that I can put on my RCI skids. Nothing too fancy, but it gets the job done. I had forgotten what a complete PITA it is to try to put skids on to a non-lifted vehicle with stock size tires. I feel kind of beat up today. Hahahaha…IMG_1355.jpgIMG_1355.jpg IMG_1354.jpgIMG_1366.jpg

The exhaust reroute for me did not dive below but ran around the transfer case. This only makes a difference for the transfer case skid from RCI, not the transmission skid.

That crossover tube is lined with a hear shield. So the actual exhaust tube is a much smaller ID than the OD measured in the non-crushed portion.

No idea.. I asked for the shop to take care of it for me and they said they've done these a bunch of times before.
