Exactly. There’s no reason Toyota can’t add an extra 6” of interior length and keep the same overall width. Shrink the hood, make bumpers that don’t stick out so far or just make the truck a few inches longer. You’ll never notice a few inches of overall length while driving but will notice the extra interior space.

Not debating that it can't be done but some of that extra space is for modern crumple zones, hood and bumper sick out farther these days to disspate energy in a crash.

    more legroom = larger cab

larger cab = bigger truck, or smaller engine compartment (maybe), or shorter bed (unlikely)

bumpers - there needs to be separation of bumper from body to protect the vehicle. rear acts as step (?remove that)

longer? the DCLB is already very long for a midsize truck.

comparing it to other vehicles is silly.
doesn't meet your needs? don't buy it.
want bigger, buy bigger (lots of options).

In the end, I'm not saying the 2024 won't get bigger, maybe it will.
Edit - re: post above this one. Can it be done? Of course it can, but why does it have to? it's a midsize truck. Size creep is real.

To appeal to more midsize buyers who don't want a full sized but need the room of midsized trucks available from other manufacturers.

Adding a few inches to the total length to a double cab truck is not that big of a deal. If people don’t need the interior space and want a shorter truck they will get an access cab. Adding a few inches to the length does not suddenly turn the truck into a full size. A full size truck is much wider. That is more noticeable when driving/parking than length.

then buy a Gladiator (or whatever other vehicle meets your needs). problem solved.

pretty sure Tacoma sales suggest that a large # of people are fine the way it is.

why cater to a subsegment when they can just go buy another product to meet their needs?

did I already say comparing it to other vehicles is silly? If you like the size of the other vehicle better, go buy that one.

    seems pretty simple to me.

It seems like a lot of Tacoma owners don’t even use the truck as a truck anyways. More cab space is more useful than bed space to them. It seems like this is the crowd that Toyota is marketing to with their removable speakers and shit.

That's what Toyota want to avoid, people buying another vehicle like a Gladiator because their current offering doesn't have the room. I hear lot's of complaints on here about wanting more room. Now they can pull in those that skipped a Tacoma because it was just too uncomfortable.

another member brought up that the Gladiator has 6" more interior space, and why can't Toyota do that?
it is a larger truck (lo and behold, 6" longer, and 10" larger wheelbase)

agreed. comparing the two is silly. if you want a bigger truck, buy it, like a Gladiator

    that is the point

And Toyota wants to pull in those sales that they missed from an interior that was too tight for them. Now they can capitalize on it now they have the frame to do it.

The point is that a gladiator has a rough riding solid front axle and a noisy removable roof. It’s a wrangler with a bed. If you want a serious off-roader or something to take to the beach with the top off then the gladiator is perfect. For everything else it’s a compromise.

    woosh - point missed

we're not talking about ride or roof.
size is the topic at hand

but sure, I don't disagree with your assessment otherwise

it doesn't matter - truck is built.

if you need 2" more legroom and it's a game-stopper - oh well, go buy something else. Not necessarily a Gladiator. It was just used as an example since it was brought up by another member. There are other options out there

Color me happy if Toyota magically gets extra legroom in the 2024 without making the truck bigger.
