So, back in March did a trip to Palo Duro...didn't take a ton of pics around camp (more hiking and such, given it's a state park, it's kind of...well, camping). I did however think it was worth snapping a shot as I had some visitors poking around near my Gazelle tent (I sleep in the truck, but had a friend out so brought the tent).

I did just sneak out to Lake Pueblo for a night last weekend, better pics of camping things (even though it was a state campground as well)....
Got rock lighting added (for around camp, I like the indirect lighting so I don't trip over things):

The last time I was there, I was pestered ALL night by a couple of raccoons and got no sleep whatsoever. I would much prefer your visitors! It is a beautiful place anyway.

Totally new to the idea of truck camping here. Is that your own DIY mod for raising the topper with the camper inserts there? Do you sleep with it like that? I've been googling the hell out of are mx toppers, but I can't find anything like that to save my life.

I got together with a bunch of guys a couple of weeks ago to do some filming of the Superbloom at the Carrizo Plain National Monument. And by "guys" I mean professional FPV drone pilots. This is a combination of two of my favorite hobbies. FPV and overlanding. Out of the 8 of us though, I'm the only one that camped on the Carrizo Plain. I'm mostly a visual story-teller so this is mostly a picture and video dump.

The area around Soda Lake proper, Soda Lake Road, and around the Visitors Center was simply clogged with tourists. As beautiful as it was, we eschewed that area in favor for some more remote terrain around the southwest edge of the plains on the Caliente range.

    An introductory video:

    From above my campsite:

    Panorama of camp:

Definitely on the Top 5 of my coolest camp sites ever.

Nothing to see here. Just a bunch of nerds in their FPV goggles.

    The overland pooch and truck.

Sunset got a lot more spectacular than this but I forgot to take pictures.

Hey! No, it is not my own mod. It is from topperezlift.com. I can't sleep with it up that often as there is usually too much wind. I like it for hanging out, reading, working when I have to work on the computer, etc. Makes getting dressed a lot easier too (I can't sit up straight with the canopy totally down). I will post up some pics of the interior if you want? It's a bit of a pain in some ways (I've had for a year now and have put it through the wringer) but it works for me and my needs right now.

We hit some nice spots. Early season, so we even had a couple parks in the East all to our selves. There are too many wonderful vistas in this land of ours. ;-)20230423_122113.jpg

There really are. I’ve talked to quite a few people who’ve taken vacations to other countries to experience the different landscapes, but have never explored the US and a lot of times never left their state. There’s so much to explore here!
