Finally got started on a tire / gas / cooler carrier for the fj40 last night. the goal is something like the pic below using spare 2x2 and some 1x3s left over from my fence project. The 40 purists may cringe haha - the tire mounting plate is from the original 1973 swing out. The old swing out won't hold the weight of the larger tires so I cut off the mounting plate portion and used it for the new ... keeping some of the original.

    upload_2023-4-26_6-13-56.jpg

The end goal will be something like the pic below - I have swing EMS Offroad carrier hinges for each side to incorporate and will probably sandwich 1/4" plates as the 3 base pieces to bolt to the frame.

    That looks bitching!

It won't matter much on this piece, but it's a good habit to take your welds all the way to the end. Don't necessarily have to wrap them either, just finish your weld all the way to the end.

Couple more signs, one with some welding! I designed both in Fusion 360.

This one is a birthday present for a friends son. He wanted silver with red LEDs (ordered). There is an inch gap behind the silver sign and the LEDs will be in there.

    20230427_175424[1].jpg

    Supposed to look like this:

    Cincinnat[1].jpg

I made 3 of these for an upcoming Craft Fair in my hometown, Evansville. The sign hangs over the entrance to the old brick paved Main Street. The woman who asked me to make her some items to sell thinks it'll be very popular because it has hometown appeal.

    Actual sign:
    Main-St-Walkway-Arch1[1].jpg

My version. I welded the arms coming out to the side. Made them from scrap instead of putting them as part of the sign cut. Would have made a lot of waste.

Done with these bins. Glad they’re done and finished. The owner will get them powdercoated soon and I will post pictures of the official finished product

Nice! I'm liking these so far. Super comfortable and great dexterity. Haven't burned myself yet either lol. Much better than the harbor freight gloves I had before lol

We've yet to meet up for that welding table you've got set aside for me; I can churn something out beforehand.

The ole Lincoln mig welder decided to put out I light show deep within it's bowels. It is was a colorful whitish blue with hints of yellow. Only happened when wire would strike the arc. Pulled it's clothes off and looked around inside while triggering an ark. Found a bIG capacitor connection screw causing the light show. Of course the screw is welded in. $900.00 for replace capacitor bank. Be delivered some time in June. So I fired up old faithful, a Millermatic 35. This old machine lays out awesome welds and it's almost impossible to hurt it. It just does what you want with no complaints.20230425_120602.jpg 20230425_133746.jpg 20230425_120818.jpg IMG_20230430_231117.jpg
Miller matic pic for reference. Mines not quit that clean. :welder:

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Grind the screw off if your lucky only that cap failed you can get away with replacing just that one.

It sucks when a exploding Cap takes out the control board as well.

As long as you keep the voltage taps clean those are great machines.

It's sad that 99% of the population has no idea how much skill is involved for something like this.

We, all here know how much time it took to make those welds happen.

Lol thanks for the acknowledgement. But it's true 99% of my friends and family have no idea what the hell I'm even talking about when it comes to welding stuff. But I still post it for those 3-4 people that do haha
