I have a truck coming soon, it’s in freight. So I’ve been watching this during the process and it’s pretty amazing. Regardless of shortages of parts or whatever affecting builds and final truck availabilities, it appears Toyota has no fricken clue about their stock is being shipped. Looking at what’s built where and what’s going where there’s trucks cross crossing the continent almost passing each other. What a waste! I can’t find any pattern to what is built at each factory or what goes where. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same damn truck and package passed in the night across the continent. Why wouldn’t Toyota designate dealers to certain plants and shipping routes via geography? Looks totally hap hazard. Mine seems simple. Built in Guanajuato and going I think just by rail and truck straight north. But most others in the area are built in Baha. Dragon pro, is it as much of a free for all cluster f- as it appears or is there a hidden organization to this?
I also think the more port installed options you get the easier it is to get a truck. The more basic or MT you want the harder it is to get. Most likely just because they’re pushing the money trucks out.

Interesting isn't it. I have been thinking the same thing about Toyota logistics with shipping the tacoma's. Your assumption about the trucks with more PO's the easier or quicker you get a truck, as well being "basic, or MT" taking longer is not true. My TRD OR MT truck has only a few PO's. Tailgate blackout, all wx mats, doorsill protectors, and tube steps. My build to delivery was right at a month. I think it might be more of a geographical thing then a specific truck spec thing. Oh, and a little luck. :burnrubber:

Also, my salesman mentioned to me that my truck was originally allocated in Dec of last year, and Toyota finally excepted it in Feb truck was built Mar 27.

There definitely seems to be a lot more ‘allocation’ listings popping up in my area in the last three weeks or so. They must be cranking them out. I think mine will end up ~8 weeks from the time I put a deposit on an ‘allocation’ until delivery. It looks like it’s going smooth and all land travel. I’ll hit him up for an update later in the week.

Truck is built and that’s a good VIN. All 4Runners are built in Japan, so by the time tracking info is available it’s almost always built already and either at port or on a ship. Yours left Japan on 4.12.

I have no real insight into Toyota’s logistics, but it really depends on where it’s built and where it’s going. My truck sat in Veracruz for about 5 weeks but once it shipped it hit my dealership in under a week. Toyota continues to have challenges with parts shortages and shipping issues.

Those of you waiting for your trucks, especially any M/T builds, should consider yourselves fortunate. You may have to wait, but at some point you will get your truck. Anyone trying to get something specific now that has not already been allocated may never see it. Toyota will only be building MY23 Tacomas for another 6 months or so and that’s a tight window for your dealer to get allocated a truck you “order.” Toyota has already advised my region that certain builds will no longer be available for the balance of the year.

I think it's an ignorant claim that Toyota has no clue what is going on with their allocation process. You really think a giant hugely successful corporation that makes the most reliable vehicles doesn't know what they are doing? Come on. I am sure they have a very specific build strategy of the trims of the trucks they produce that their forecasting and planning showed was best for the market for profitability.

Pretty sure dealer has my truck. Based off Dave saying yesterday that it should arrive and now it doesn’t show up on Toyota tracker or dealer website and the subscription timers in the Toyota app reset!

It's not a claim. It's an observation after looking at all the dealer listings in my area, how long they take to get there, and looking at what everybody has on 'order' on TM and asking the question if it is as much of a free for all as it seems. "...is it as much of a free for all cluster f- as it appears or is there a hidden organization to this?" I find it interesting to watch.

The real problem is the lack of communications between the dealers, distributors and the customers. Those of us in the Gulf States distributor area are not getting any kind of decent information from the dealers. I have to go to the dealer to get a portion of the info that DragonPro23 gives me here. In my case, I have a contract on a specific vehicle. But, the info for that vehicle does not state where it is going, and only recently did it say when. If they were to communicate the status info properly (not just location, but why it is taking so long, what that 80 day delay was for), then it would go a long way to make customers happier.
The vehicle shortage has brought another situation - I have observed that the local dealers seem to make more money by selling their allocations to other dealers than to individual consumers. This probably explains the lack of communications.
Still, this should be a very good vehicle, and I look forward to someday being able to drive it and park it in my driveway. Thus I wait while my patience is heavily tested...

    Welp i got disturbing news.

On the Wait List [no deposit required]: 10\22
Allocation confirmed with temp VIN [put in deposit]: 12/22
Build Date [with Permanant VIN]: 01/23
Arrived at Jacksonville, FL [JAX PORT]: 02/23
    ETA Arrival: 02/23 > then 03/23 > then 04/24 > then 06/24

My Dealer Called Toyota North America today to get answers (they should have done this ages ago). Toyota pulled my built truck from inventory, I can confirm as it no longer shows on Southeast Toyota inventory anymore ( https://exploretoyota.com/ ) nor Toyota USA inventory page ( Toyota Inventory | New Toyota Inventory Search ), but basically dealer won't be getting nor selling that specific truck anymore. This makes me wonder if mine actually got damaged during transport.

At this point the dealer offered me 3 options.
    1. Wait for a 2023 build [Toyota told the dealer that they'll prioritize an allocation for them -- who knows when that'll be]
    2. Wait for a 2024 and i'd be first in line once they get an allocation for it later this year. [Tempting, especially that a Manual is confirmed for the new platform, but I never get the first year of a new platform so this option is out]
    3. Get my Refund back (which was non-refundable, but under the circumstances, they gladly gave me this option without hesitation)

Just put a deposit down on my first Tacoma! I'm beyond excited. Any chance this VIN is popping up? I think it's temporary, but I'm not sure.
