Fan runs fine and actually the fridge is starting to cool since I cleared out all the frost from the coils.

My fridge squeals every so often over the past few years, hoping it doesn't decide to take a dump anytime soon.

It has already cooled down a good bit already. But, I know it's temporary till it freezes up again. Like I said, it's time for an upgrade. This thing was originally white, but due to the previous owner being a chain smoker is no longer white. Even the inside is nicotine stained. I might fix it and give it to a friend. She's a chain smoker, so it would fit right in

It is a freezer on the bottom job right?

I have the same one that did the same thing repeatedly, see that whimpy little strip of white foam on the cover? I replaced it with some 3/4" wide black foam and the problem went away for good.

    @Delta09

I might have even put 2 strips on there, it has been several years now.

It will cool just fine after you defrost the coils, I used a heat gun to melt it out.
The air can bypass around that whimpy foam is what makes it freeze up.

Once I unplug it when the new one arrives and it defrost completely, I'll check the resistance of the heating coil to see if it's still good. I actually have some of that foam insulation from when I did the heater core in my old '99 S10.

All appliances are boat anchors. Pick one with a really good warranty and buy one from a store with a really good return policy. *Costco*

or better, a local mom/pop appliance store.

my family has been buying appliances from one of those local stores for as long as i've been around. the family that's ran the shop that whole time has always treated everyone fairly, usually watching out for deals/discounts coming up("this models nice, but if you can wait till next week, they're discounting it"), and were always aware of issues with certain ones, many times in ways that saved us money, contrary to their bottom line ("yeah, you don't want that $1k fridge, they've got issues with the circuit boards, this other $700 model cools way better, same interior volume, less long term complaints, and it's on sale for $550 this week because they're phasing out the color")

Well fridge is bought, who knows when it will show up. Went to the big box stores and the mom and pop. Only ones able to get something that I could use was the Depot...

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Whirlpo...gerator-in-White-WRS321SDHW/302895657#overlay

It may or may not get here next Thursday. There's apparently only 4 in the warehouse for the entire district... o_O

I have just enough width, but I'm going to move the 3/4" 1x12 on the right hand side so I have some air gap. If I don't it'll be tight against both sides. Not looking forward to that project. Also have to bring the water line up and behind the fridge instead of running the copper tubing from the basement. Luckily when I installed the water heater I came off the 3/4" PEX with a 3/4x3/4x1/2 tee for the water line to go to the fridge. All I gotta do is cut off and drain the water and run my line. I will install a ball valve so I have two places to shut off the water. One in the basement, and one behind the fridge.

I've been wanting to relocate to the Clay/Liverpool area (outskirts of Syracuse), but looking at the taxes on houses, holy Hell! Definitely slowed that thought down o_O

You don't want to live clear up there, they get way more snow than I do.
NY property taxes are brutal too.

"1. Syracuse, New York: 127.8 inches
Syracuse takes home the crown as the snowiest city in America, averaging 127.8 inches each winter. That's just shy of 11 feet of snow, most of which is courtesy of the large body of water to its northwest: Lake Ontario."

I've spent many of times in Syracuse, and it is some beautiful country! Don't know why, but I loved that area (Clay/Liverpool). While I don't like the cold and snow, it doesn't bother me that much. The reason for moving to that area is my work has a hub there that I could transfer to if they ever have an opening. Property taxes are the only thing that's really holding me back. However, if what happens with the land around me, a developer will want my property and they're gonna pay for it dearly. Gives me the money to do it. But, that's a subject for another day...

Agree, it is nice country - when not snow (or salt) covered.
I was out that way (further east) last week to get the Yazoo mower.

I have residential property in both NY & PA, the NY taxes are over double the PA, brutal.
