    I got my first bifocals (progressives) around mid 40's. Never had lined bifocals. I don't even realize they are multi-focal lenses at all, unless I wear them while walking around outside. Then sometimes, if I am looking at the ground, they have a just noticeable "fish eye lens" type effect, and it makes me momentarily wonder what the hell is going on. I don't wear them for anything other than working (computer all day), reading, and watching TV.

    I found out at my last eye exam (December) that I have the very beginnings of cataracts. Doc estimated probably 10 years until I will need surgery. Oh fcuking joy...... the thought of getting a knife stuck into my eyes does not sit well with me. :eek:

    Cataract surgery is actually rather minimally invasive. Some people report it fixes their need for glasses or contacts. That didn't happen for me because of other eye issues, but's not very risky. Macular degenaration is more invasive becuse they put a shot in your eye once a month.

    I know quite a few folks that haven't needed glasses after cataract surgery, as they replace the lense in the eye, so now you have near perfect focus for either near or far. Most people in our age range end up needing glasses because that lense stiffens and usually either your near or distance focal point can't be reached by the stiffened lens.

    My issue is a psychological thing. I can't stand needles. Unless they involve ink. It took me 30+ years to finally be able to have a simple blood draw without passing out. To this day, I do not allow my Dentist to give me Novacaine when he needs to drill, because the thought of a needle coming towards my face is more than I even want to contemplate. So a knife to the eye...... yeah. :bananadead:

    I hear you. I had to learn to accept needles when my eye got messed up. I have had to have needles through my eye when awake. Not fun. The good thing is, for cataract surgery, you are knocked out, so you won't see the need le coming.

    A little of this and a little of that.
    :hattip:Good morning all

    Eyeglasses required just about 10 years ago for me. Yearly eye exams for work due to NDT (non-destructive testing) and engine run/aircraft taxi qualifications. Progressive lenses are the way to go!

    Decent day here and I have to get some lawns mowed.
    Stay safe out there today.

    :oldglory:

    Yep, started wearing cheaters at 50, got real glasses at 55, progressive bi focals. Can’t do anything without glasses. First eye exam was a real eye opener, doc could see all the scars on my eye balls from all the crap that got in there over the years. Need to make an appointment with the eye doctor, time for new glasses.:bananadance:

    oh thank God! I hadn't asked, but had assumed they did it while you were awake.

    Years ago, my sister had laser eye surgery so she would not have to wear glasses any longer. She described in detail the procedure... done while you are awake. I'll just say that instantly persuaded me there was no way in Hell I would ever go through that procedure. So I assumed cataract surgery was likely to be of a similar situation.

    Knock me out - I don't care what you do. I've had 2 spinal and 1 hip surgeries. Unconscious == un-panicked :D

    G'morning everyone!

    Approaching 59 and still just wearing cheaters, ... was 49-50 when I started wearing them! Hopefully, my eyes won't get any worse!

    Happy Taco Tuesday and good morning all. I don't wear glasses, but I'm sure it will come with a little more time. i bet the use of cell phones these days lead to a lot of advanced eye problems!

    Yeah, didn't think I'd ever need them, ... but I couldn't make my arms any longer so I had to settle for cheaters to read my watch! :D
